What do you guys think of porting and polishing on a Honda B series engine ? Some people say its a waiste of money is it ?

If you plan to spend big money on the engine then yes it is worth it. But many would say its a waste of money throwing thousands at a B16, all depends on how far you want to tune your car/for what purpose & how flush you feel eh.
For some good advice on headwork try Ben Rushworth @ Angleworks.

to achieve maximum hp gains while staying NA Head Porting is a VITAL thing...

The b16b and b18c heads have already been ported havent they ? What about polishing ? could i just give the ports a real good clean ?

The port work on the Type-R heads are basic at best.... a true port and polish is miles ahead of what Honda performed at the factory.

How much difference will having a ported and polished DC2 intake manifold make, compared to something like a Skunk 2 Pro one, having had my head port and polished? Is it worth it?

I have a 65mm J's Racing TB.....

The J's Racing throttle body increases the diameter, critical when developing increased power over the standard by ensuring increased intake flow.

Features
- 65mm Butterfly
- 70mm aperture diameter
- 11.7% increase in diameter for Honda Civic EK4

I would go with the JG Edelbrock Performer X. It's consistently shown better gains for those with milder mods. Or better yet.... DC2-R intake manifold.

I wouldn't consider going the pro-series stuff unless you've got a healthy bump in compression/cams/displacement and a ported head..or any combination of the listed.

I've got Jun stage 2 cams and gears, but still 1.6 displacement, looking to move to a B18c bottom end in the future though!

Don't bother with the intake manifold till you go 1800cc then.

So would you recommend just going for a standard ITR DC2 type R intake manifold for the time being? As I can get one for around £200 :nice:

If that's a good deal to you, then there are some performance benefits to it...as long as you tune properly. Otherwise just slapping it on with the stock ECU will generally produce LOSSES up until 8000rpm

Having it tuned on Hondata S300, so shouldn't be a problem! Ported intake manifold was £600....so was just wondering if it was worth it just yet!

I'm all up for building the shi! outta things but I would rather save the money for the time being, especially if you got bigger and better planned down the line.
