my friend has a 92 civic hatchback cx it's only a eight valve single cam it did not come equipped w/ air conditioning so he bought the whole ac kit off of ebay i think it was off of a 94 coupe he had to rip out the dash and install everything from underneath well once installed the car lags w/ the ac on but w/ it off the car runs perfect also at a stop sign the cars battery light and oil light came on and the car died he restarted it the lights were off and he turned off the ac and drove home where its been parked so what we're trying to figure out is how to fix this problem perhaps the engine is not putting out enough power for the ac??? anyone have any suggestions? thanks

Some electrical component can be connected wrong or is not working well. Please give us more details

Yes He Wants To Keep The AC He Just Put It In And Hes Trying To Find Out Whats Wrong With it. He Doesnt Know Whats Wrong With It he Uses The AC And It Wooks Good The Only Thing It The Car Runs Like A Slug With The AC On And It makes Some Clicking Noise But When The ACs off The Car Runs Fine

The Problem Is When Hes Driving The battery Light And Oil Light Comes On. Once That Happens The Car Starts Dieing Out So He Has TO Turn The AC Off And The Car Runs Fine We Just Dont Understand Why The battery Light And Oil Light Come On.

Also He Was Wondering What If He Changes Out His Little Manifold To The Bigger Singal Cam Manifold With An Intake Just To Help The Motor Out With Air Right Now Hes Running The Stock Air Box But With The Tube Unpluged For More Air To See If That Helps The Motor Breath Better.

What Would I Have To Do To Check The electrical component they all seem To Be Working But Hes Were Not 100%. Thanks

It just sounds like the D15B8 engine is not up to the task of spinning the additional AC accessory.

You can improve the performance of the motor by looking for a stock D16Z6 intake manifold and if you can find one, a D16Y8 header. If not, the Z6 header will work fine as well.

The best alternative though would be to replace the entire motor with at least a D15B7 which is a 1.5L 16valve. Those above mentioned mods work best in conjunction with this motor and also a Z6 transmission which offers shorter gearing.

As you're in Cali, these motors/transmissions/parts in general should be plentiful and can often be assembled for no more than $500 for something in good condition.

If you're in a real tight budget jam and it comes down to choosing between the intake/header or the transmission, opt for the transmission - you won't regret it.

A15 from the ecu has to go to the AC clutch relay and B5 is a signal input from the ACC switch. If you have the switch wired straight to the AC clutch relay then the ecu has no intervention to rev-up the engine just before engageing the clutch.

You should check this BUT as Raging Angel said, maybe the motor isnt up-to the job!

keep us posted

Well He Going To Get A Swap But In A Couple Of Months But For Now He Wants His AC Working With The Motor He Found Some Parts For Cheap For Now A Radiator Because His Was Cracked,The Bigger Better Singal Cam Manifold, An AEM Cold Air Intake,Some Aftermarket Headers To Help. Do You Think That Would Help? When He Turns On The AC The Motor Changes Like Less Power And It Acts Different If Thats What You Ment My Reving Up.But Im Just Trying To Get Everything Working Ok So Im Willing To Try Anything For Now Thanks!

Or What If He Adds On Like A B16 Throttle Body Or Something Like That Too Would That Help Out His Motor Along With The Rest Of That Stuff

Damn you really love that shift button on the keyboard I can tell....

anyway.

The 16A throttle body would help marginally. It's a small displacement 8V with low compression pistons from the factory. There's only so much you can wring out of it.

Or just all CAPS, vB seems to reduce all the caps to appear just first letter caps the few times i have done it myself (leaving caps on on accident.)

But back to the topic, basically that engine is just too damn weak, i'm sorry to say but its true, even the d16 struggle with a/c on, very common on small 4cyl engines.

My D16 is fine with AC :secret: :p

Its Not That He Wants TO Spend Money On That Motor Its Just He Wants It To Have Atleast The Power To Make It Around Ok And Plus Hes Going On A 3 Hour Drive And If Anyone Knows Around California Im Talking About The Grapevine And Its Hot Over Here In Cali So He Just Wants To Be Safe And Not Break Down On The Way With My AC So We Figuer That What If He Adds On Little Things Maybe That Will Help Thats Why I Was Asking About All This Thanks For The Help!

i should have been more specific, i was referring to the non-vtec ones, you cannot deny the car runs VERY sluggish with AC on, this problem is even worse on a heavier chassis like a coupe or sedan or if you have an auto tranny.
