opinions on different intakes

I went from a Tegiwa Whale Cock to a ITR Air Box with Spoon drop-in to a Mugen Air Box....Without a doubt I would say the difference between the whale cock and the Mugen was very noticeable (Mugen being better in all areas, bar sound!)

But I wouldnt have said there was much of a difference between the Mugen and the ITR box with drop in...My conclusion was ITR air box was the way forward! (unless you can justify spending £250 on a Mugen Box)

Did you use an enclosed air box with a cold air feed on the Tegiwa whale intake or did you just have it open dude?

aem v2 good power gains nice noise but air filter doesnt last to long because of corrosion

The best option is definitely using the OEM airbox due to the intake not pulling in hot air.:secret: Using a snorkel to pull cold high pressure air to the airbox is great for performance. The Mugen and and J's are pretty, but that is all. Unless they are enclosed away from engine heat. A CAI is exactly the opposite of what it claims, due to the metal absorbing the heat more than the plastic OEM. I haven't looked into using heat reflective tape on an OEM intake before, but that seems like it would actually help.

Strange because the whale cock when we dynoed it beat the OEM itr box by 3.3bhp
Our MG style beat them both though 5.5bhp over stock

When you performed these checks the bonnet was probably open and had a large fan blowing air to the front of the car (just what I do when doing runs on a dyno). This is not like when on a track with normal engine temp reached. That is when the loss in power will occur (due to drawing in the hot air). The main point I am trying to get across is that a larger diameter intake will allow more air flow and the design can increase the velocity, but if you run a CAI use something to draw the coldest air possible.

Yea I am interested in finding this out too .. I would most likely be running a custom box to keep the heat away from the filter ..

me too, as its just a road car im not interested in the +/- 3bhp your likely go get from it i just want one that sounds nuts and blings up the engline bay! i just want to know if its worth spending over £250 on a j's when the £120 tegiwa does/sounds exactly the same

i had an aem v2cold air intake and thought it was class, not only as a nice asset to the engine bay and sound wise,it definately helped performance wise as well :)

however heard a lot of good things about j's racing intakes ;)

They sound exactly the same.. I've got one but I'm selling it at the minute.. What a noise! :D

i heard that the inside of these tsuchinoko style intakes is different to the genuine thing.
replicas have more groovy surface than the original thing.

x2. I have one and they sound exactly the same:)

What intake setup are you going for next man?

:) .. The cars off the road at the minute and in a million bits, so I'm really swaying toward's ITB's :D

Just sold the whale's to gather some funds otherwise I'd of kept it

Dale.
