Oil pressure dropped!

I'm in erdington m8. I'm using the sandwich plate for my vtec kit. I have a spliter coming from my pressure switch.
You go to many of the midlands meets? They advetise them on civiclife. Think there's one on 28th.
Are you on about the oem oil pressure switch on the back of the block ? No i dont mate but i will do when i get my car properly on the road. I'm rebuilding my b16b at the moment so i can turbo it. Where is this meet supose to be at ?

Meets used to be star city but I'm sure they've moved to nuneaton I think. Yes the oem pressure switch. I have a braided line running to a t piece fitted on the firewall. Which then has oil pressure sender and oem switch attached.

Ok so I just went to have a little look at my pressure issue.
Started the car and the pressure staggered upto 35psi in stages. Then I went and felt around the sender to see if there's any leaks or connection problems. Non that I could see. But when I then go and look at the gauge it's on 0. So I switched the engine off. Started it again and it went upto 10?
Is there ANYTHING that could cause that other than the gauge or sender?

When it went to 10 or 0 was your oil light on ? Did the engine sound tappy to ?

i bet its the darn gauge!
oil pumps work or they don't, they just don't behave like what he is describing if starting to fail.

And yes Rich, if there is no oil light on, it must be the gauge.

Hmmm.... Try a new gauge and see what it reads. I still wouldnt recomend driving it until you know for 100% its the gauge.

Was your oil light on (on the dash) when the pressure was that low ?

Got a few hours spare today so i changed the sender but still no pressure?
I did ground the sender to car body (because some say you might need to) but it sent the gauge all the way to the top, so i know gauge is getting the signal.
also changed the oem pressure switch because since the pressure has gone down i have now noticed my oil light doesnt come on at ALL! not even on start up to tell me theres no pressure? Whats that all about?
Oh and my pressure just stays at 0 now all the time.
Also after a little more inspecting around the bay, i jacked the car up and looked underneath, there seems to be abit of oil coming from i would say behind the pulley area, i didnt spot it before because it is collecting in my wheel arch lining and ive been looking on the floor derrrr!
I think my next step will be to take all the side casing off and get a propper look behind the pulley.
any thoughts on this guys?

The crank seal will be your oil leak problem, did you change it when you rebuilt it ? As for your oil light issue, What wire is going from the dash to the sender ? Have you got a clean good ground ? I normally scrap a bit of paint away to get a beter ground. As i last said, How does your engine sound ? Does it sound real tappy and rough ? or is it smooth and quiet ?

My engine sounds fine. The same as it always has.
As for the ground. It is grounded at the gauge. I have the ground attached from the gauge to the metal frame around the steering column. If I remove the wire all the gauge lights go out. So seems to be fine. Why would my oem oil dash light not be lighting no more that's a different wire altogether.

Maybe thats the quicker route the electric current is taking ? ? If you disable the gauge does it work ?

What do you mean? If i take away the ground the gauge does not illumimate but as i said the gauge doesnt move at all now. just lights up. but if i ground the sender it goes upto top (100psi) just when i switch ignition on, and if i turn the engine over it stays there.

Doesn't sound like a wiring issue, like you say the signal wire goes to the gauge, then the gauge is earthed/powered in the car

This is what im thinking, the only thing i dont get is why my oem oil light is not coming on at all?

This is strange, there should be no reason for it not to work. I'll ask my mate in a bit what he thinks im not as good with electric's.

Yes, this is has me wondering...could it be that your gauge and oil pressure sensor are both out at the same time? :wow: Go out and buy a lottery ticket if you find this to be true. Maybe your gauge is working after all? hummmm but why no oil light? very weird.

Yes very weird. I ain't sure where to go with it. I have a free day tomorrow so i'm gonna strip of the side casing and pulley. Check the seal and not sure whether to take the pump off! My mate also has a mechanical pressure gauge so if I can fit that it might at least eliminate a wire problem, and I'll do a contingency test on all the wires involved.
Anything else you reckon?

Well it seems they are both gone at the same time haha
fitted a mechanical gauge today and started the engine and straight away oil came through and gauge went upto 75psi so seems i do have pressure yay!
but still didnt explain oil warning light so i checked the wire with a contingency test and seems somewhere the wire it broke so thats my next step. Also ordered a new gauge, autogauge stepper one (a decent one this time lol).
