Oil coolers

indeed i do:D, i will give this a go some time on a spare sump pan, may need some advice on where to add the baffels when i do it:nice:

This was performed by our in-house mechanic and is modeled after the Mugen pan he is also using. He unfortunately didn't have the patience to cut and fabricate the added capacity portion.

The verticle blade you see is directly mirrored on the other side, although it is NOT the same shape - they extends all the way to the floor of the pan. Its shape is best described as a triangle.

thanks for the picture, should be a simple fabrication,
i'd say extending the lower section at the back where the sump plug is would be the best way to increase compacity?? as it wouldn't effect ground clearance.

it would be best if you want to maintain optimum ground clearance. Spoon determined that they could up the capacity by as much as 1.5L (IIRC) by "kicking out" the front and back of the pan but also increasing its depth (but reducing ground clearance).

I would happy with 0.5-1.0L increase without sacrificing the Type-R transmission brace and ground clearance.

thanks for the advice:nice:

Not sure about the turn down, didnt think the price was too bad as I dont know how long it takes. Empty, removal, clean out, weld, put back, refill?
Most aftermarket ones in UK seemed to be a touch more money, factor in postage then fitting if you dont know how to do it & theres not much in it.

i did mine with the fastline baffles when the motor was being rebuilt, obviously you want to wait for a good time to do it, at least wait till ya need an oil change ;)

i wish i knew then what i know now, i would have added a turn down section to it, well i guess its better than nothing :(

So if i buy a spoon sump cause i love um and i'm a spoon whore.... LOL

Are they bigger capacity and up to the job?

Plus i can sell it when i get rid of the car.

i'll have a good read of the baffled sump section....

Thanks guys really appreciating this especially MFactory!

apart from fastline that sell the basic plates are there any companies that sell plates just like the mugen ones ?

at some point in future im more than likely going to just have plates welded into my oem b16a sump but makes life easier if i can fnd plates of the shelf that can be welded straight in

can anyone also confirm precise differences between b16a2 and ek9/b18c sump, read different info with most saying design is same but fitment little different but need 100% clarification please

Nobody currently offers Mugen style baffles.

B16A2 will not fit B18C/B16B but a B16B/B18C can fit B16A2.

I surmise the Spoon style baffles with vertical slats like the Mugen would be easiest to fabricate and would offer near the same if not the same performance as the Mugen unit.

so does the mugen baffled sump came with extra capacity? if so by how much?

stock capacity.

the only extended capacity pan on the market now that is readily available with next to no lead/wait time is from Moroso.

It's a 5.5qt unit.

Some custom JDM pans are kicked out to 7L and are available on a order only basis and cost a good coin.

Guys

can someone tell me the normal oil pressure and oil temperature for turbo application.I have installed oil cooler but still not yet fit the gauges. Thank in advance for willingness to assist.

I personally do not know the exact figures, but from what I recall on my friend's car, the oil pressure will remain in a safe operating range.

It will still reach full pressure but at approximately 500-700rpm later. At idle it isn't a problem.

hey fellas..

motul 300v: we did use it on a track (Salzburgring, OE) in september 07 for cirquit race with ITR gr N. we used 15-50 competition and 20-60 LeMans from motul 300v.. 20 laps of pure Vtec without oil cooler, NO problems.. it is a good oil.

oil cooler: in a company where i work, we assembled lot's of engines, specialy b series and aded some oil coolers, my boss buys MOCAL oil cooler, 16rows.. it seems to work good on boosted or NA engines..
