Hi all
I've just been laid off and need to find a job pretty sharpish. i've been looking at trying to get a job offshore on the rigs but can't seem to find any way into this besides recruitment agencies who want money off of me just to see what jobs might be available.
Any chance anyone here has some contacts or has been through this?
i'm currently a nvq lvl 3 light vehicle tech and have spent 8.5 years working in bmw/mini dealerships. However since the start of this year i've been working for a winch and hoist services company as a general engineer. After 9 months i have been laid off due to lack of work.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Lewis

i m looking to get offshore aswell probs best doing your survival and going on every oil companys websites you can think of and send them your cv.

Getting offshore is hard bud, keep your eyes open for oil and gas open days and look for even retraining rather than going in as rostabout. You will struggle to get a mechanics position.
But as mentioned best doing your Boiset and mist courses but that will set you back a bit too £800-1000 but try Survivex offshore survival and skills training in Europe's energy capital, Aberdeen for them , they have the best deals on normally.
Dont mean to be disheartening, i have tried to get off shore on rigs , drill ships and various others in the marine sector of the offshore industry. As i am a sea going marine engineer with almost 6 year qualified under my belt and i am not being entertained. But helps if you know anyone that is offshore ?

I know there is a few lads that are offshore on the site that might be able to help you out better than me. I hope there is but thats just my 2 cents.
