hi all,
im going to the nurburgring at the end of may and was wondering on insurance on the ring, ive spoke to my insurance company and they wont cover me, ive spoken to a few people who have mentioned ADAC but is that just breakdown cover? or do they also insure? i want to get insurance as ive been looking at repair cost to barriers etc and its not cheap so wana cover myself (even tho i dont plan on crashing) can anyone point me in the right direction of insurance companys who will cover me whilst im on the ring?

cheers

i got told greenflag do some sort of cover.
personally i didnt bother with any i just have breakdown cover

when i was looking at insurance for nurburgring it was working out around £80 per day, but in my eyes its worth it, just type in track day insurance into google, think ADAC is just breakdown cover but they also tow you off the 'ring' if you have a smash.

thats alot cheaper than any i found, i was looking at £200 per day...... and tbh if i thought i was going to even scratch my car i woudlnt go...... but then again youve got to be prepared if someone else smashes into you......
I mite look into it next time if its £80 perday
but stil....... thats alot of money for the amount of time ill acutally be on the track each day, might just wing it again!

let me know what the best price you find is :)

£80 a day is ridiculous! my car isnt even worth that much, id just leave it in the country if i smashed it
joke :p

but for someone with an ek9 thats worth 6k, £80 is very cheap when you smash.

Id defo get insurance mate, if someone smashes into you, and they arent covered then I think your knackered. If you dont get it and then wreck it, like you said have to pay for armco etc, and if you wreck the car, and do what some people do and tow it outside the track and pretend you had a smash and make a claim, they arent stupid and if your within distance of the track they will put two and two together, also while on the subject, make sure your normal insurance covers you to drive in europe also!

If its track insurance, even if they are covered, their insurance only covers their car and the damages done too the barriers but not other vehicles.

Its definitely worth getting insurance just in case someone one hits into you and you hit the barriers. From what I heard its something stupid like £100 per meter of the barrier you hit.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Don't see all the fuss to be honest! Drive sensibly! End of!

My mates been going for 5yrs and he's never had insurance for the Ring. Most people that crash are tourists pushing to hard and not learning the track properly. Basically being idiots! There are the very odd few accidents caused by oil or fluid being dumped on track but these are not that common as stupid irresponsible tourists trying to break lap records!

but what if some idiot in a saxo etc side swipes you going into a corner and he has no insurance? your stuffed, through no fault of your own.

Even if he does you'll be lucky to claim off of his! Its a very grey area Ring and insurance....

Either pay for insurance or drive carefully. Anyone coming up behind me i give plenty of warning i'm moving over and i let them past! I don't race anyone! If i come up behind someone i wait untill they've seen me before i past and if someones the same level i slow down and let them have some space and distance between us.

Just my opinion.

yeah i totally agree with you and thats the way i'll be driving but i've saved for 2 years for my car and if i lost it i dont know what i would do. so for the sake of a couple of hundred pounds i know i'll be pretty much covered

Your choice. I know how you feel and exactly what you mean i've written one car off on track as it is! I've got over 20k in my 9... :angry2:

as said , just drive sensibly, keep your eyes on your mirrors aswell as on the track ahead and just generally keep your wits about you :)

Only crashed i saw while i was there was a Renault Clio race car while it was testing (in the day) in the wet....

and that was within a couple of hours lol

...

Cost them a fair bit in damages to the ring people!!

I just cant believe that you are wondering whether to have insurance or not, I just think its a false economy not too. I just wouldnt leave it to chance, and saying 'just take it easy' is worthless, doesnt help when you hit that bump/fuel/oil patch etc and fly off into the armco. I can just see the topic when you get back " Look what happened at the ring" and the comment 'I wish I had got the insurance now!'. Depends on how much you value your car and whether you want to pay for any damage to the circuit. Im sure the people in the pics above didnt go there with the intention of smashing their cars and damaging the circuit, but they still did! Your car, your money and your loss if it all goes wrong, so its up to you.

Good luck though.

neil tbf that is on a wet track, i wouldnt dare going on that track in the wet lol
when i was there, a rs4 got written off and that was it. the track was closed mainly due to dumbass bikers thinking there the best. in 3 days 2 deaths and 1 other in hospital.

Good info that Bazza posted up ages ago

Ring etiquette

Remember that its an unristricted German toll road, so German road rules apply. Overtake on the left only and by consent only. Drivers will let you past by indicating over to the right and slowing down. However, you will get the odd ego muppet with a 400bhp barge that will just squirt away down the straights and leave your torqueless little Civic behind - and again, you'll catch him in a corner and again, be annoyed he won't get out of your way! This is not uncommon, back off for 30 seconds and continue you're lap.

If you are first on the scene of any incident/accident you MUST stop and offer assistance. Get the ring HQ hut on your mobile phone.

I recommend getting a Halfords European driving kit and some high-vis vests. You can slow the traffic down by waving the yellow vests at the drivers of oncoming traffic to warn them that there has been an accident ahead.

There are well over 100 corners on the ring and some of them are BLIND! Always be careful when exiting your vehicle and remember, a car at 100mph cannot stop in 10 yards, NEVER wonder onto the track. Good drivers (most of them not British) slow down for accidents, apply hazards etc. Remain off the track and continue to walk away from the accident enough to slow the cars down in time. No need to walk 2km from the accident. Common sense privails.

Anyone overtaking on the wrong side will get banned for the day (if caught) and a right ticking off (anyone who knows the Ring will know how legendary the traffic guys are - makes Anne Widdicombe look like a Telly Tubby) from the Ring staff.

If I crash, what happens?

If you do have an "off" you'll be expected to pay for:

- the barrier (300 Euro a metre IIRC)
- recovery from the track - expensive!
- loss of earnings if the track has to close
- grass seed and cleaning up fees if you drag crap over the track
- cleaning up fees if you dump oil or coolant

The last thing you want lying in a hospital bed is a 10,000 Euro bill for the above. Remember that when driving!
