Hi guys

I'm in Australia here

I just bought a VTI-R Civic, not sure what u guys call it everywhere else, but its a EK4 B16a. The guy i bought it off put a short shifter in it (not sure on brand) and all the gears are very notchy, so notchy half the time i'm not even sure i am in gear. It is notchy even when the car is moving and through the whole rev range. I was wondering if i changed the short shifter to a standard one or a different brand it would fix this or if it isn't even the short shifter. Maybe Gearbox oil or something :S ??
Please help me

If the short shifter is a ebay el chepo special it could be the issuse as it may not be moving the change rod the correct amount if you had an OEM one to compare with i'd definatly reccomend doing so. My shift sometimes feels notchy when engaging 1st it did this as OEM and with my current MFactory short shift I have some fresh gerbox oil to go in so I am hoping this will imporve it slightly other users on the forum have also noted an positive change when changing oil's but it all depends on your box's condition.

yeah ok, well i actually dont have the oem one, but i could try a gear box oil change as i dont know when the last change was done. So with your one it doesn't have any notchiness in any othe gears than first, i think it might be the short shifter. Do you know how much it is for a decent short shifter or a second hand oem ?

If you're going to change this one, just get a DC2 or EK9 one like stated. Cause a short shifter that is too short could kill your synchro's. You will shift too fast for the syncro's to get up to speed.

A decent short shifter may be around the £70 mark, Not sure what people want for an OEM ek9 shifter I know Matt O had one for sale a while ago don't know if he still has it or what the shipping to Austrialia might be like. The EK9 has a shorter shift than other civics as standard I believe and provides a very nice gear change.

hmm ok guys thanks i will have a look round for a oem or a dc2, there arent to many Ek9s in Aus so i would probs have to get one imported. But i just dont want anything to pricey. i suppose i should get one soon before i ruin the syncros
