Hey, ive just joined, ive been thinking bout getting a car cos im finishing uni soon, was looking at getting a 99 1.4 civic, cant afford to insure a 1.6 so was wondering if the 1.4 is any good or is there a different civic i should be looking at.

Dude if your finishing uni, you must be around 20ish, save up and buy a EK9 ;)

If i cant afford to buy and insure an ek9, and a 1.4 with 90hp is a bit weedy for me, should i get a 96reg 1.5 lsi eg4 with 114hp instead? what are they like to drive?

dont accept any imitations

these cars are not and will never be half as good as an EK9

if money is an issue buy a heap like a 1.0 micra to keep you going and just save like mad for en ek9

Ive decided i cant afford an ek9 so im going to get a 96 1.5 LS VTEC instead. I have been looking around on the net and if i put a performance cold air intake, a 4-2-1 manifold and a cat back exhaust on it am I going to notice the difference? And if so how much hp will i gain?
Please dont tell me to engine swap, not something I can do or afford!

Dude you will only gain a few HP from those mods, my advise buy a cheap run around, save up loads then buy a performance car....

ok. Thanks for the quick reply. I need a car now, if i get the 1.5 vtec, wot can i do to it to get the most out of it? And when i can afford it i will drop a 1.6 in!

Can you not afford an EJ8 with a 1.6 SOHC Vtec? I had that as my second car whilst in my first year of driving??? It's a coupe though, not a hatch.....

Is there any difference between the ls and sr model of the ej8?

1.4 are a waist man, get a ek9 and u u will understand what a honda all about, jus insure it as a 1.6 and ul be laughin dont be a non vtec neway

There is a difference, I don't think the ls is vtec, is it?!

The SR uses the D16Y8 SOHC Vtec engine, and is the 'sport' version.

Ive managed to find that i can get insured on a 1.6 vti!!! Its the hatchback version with the d16z6 engine. Is that a good engine?

1.6 vti should have a dohc b16a2 engine b16's are a great engine.. the d16's are ok i actually have an ej8 coupe with a d16y7 non vtec and its a good reliable car..

Ive now realised that I cant get insured with any car with a d16a or b. I can however get insured with a d16z6. Are they different? whats the hp on the d16z? All i want is a hatchback with a 1.6 vtec engine that developing more than 100hp as the only other car ive driven had 80!!!!! Someone please help!!!

d16z6 is 125bhp I think, good to turbo though, quite a popular engine!

d16y8 is 127bhp and is a later engine, in the EK chasis civics, d16z6 is out of EG chasis civics.
