metal clunking noise from front wheel, NOT ARB...

i started up my car this afternoon, and as soon as i accelerate from a still position, i can hear a 'grinding' metal noise every 1/2 secs but stops as soon as i hit about 4/5mph so i decided to stop right away and check it out.
i asked my mate to drive the car and i found out it was coming from the drivers front side, jacked the car up and took the wheel off. Once the wheel was off, i inspected if anything was loose but found nothing but i assumed it was the metal shim behind the disc. i decided to turn the wheel hub + disc whilst holding the extruding screw threads from the hub and every 360degrees, i can hear a 'clunking' sound, different to the initial grinding sound from when i was driving. i then gave the metal shim a little push from the inside, spun the disc/hub again and the noise was gone
lowered the car off the jack tried gave it a quick run, about 5metres in distance and stopped. drove to car again as i was heading to tescos and the knocking/grinding sound comes back again! :(

turning left - zero noise
turning right - metal clunking noise

it sounds like something is either broken/loose in between the metal shim and the disc. also while rotating it, it sounds like someones holding back (bending) a metal sheet then releasing it.

any ideas what this might be and how to resolve/check what the problem is?

help appreciated please! thank you!

its an EK4 VTi sorry... facelift.
