Mat@MEC's EK9

Thanks for all the kind comments, I do enjoy the Honda way of life, but Ford will always be in my heart. When you see an escort flat out sideways through a forest its hard not to love them. However, it shocked me when I found out how good these Honda engines are! I'll keep the photos of the progress coming.

I could ACTUALLY make dirty man *** with that roll cage!!! Awesome!!!!!

So would I be right in saying that some of you like the way Matt builds cages??????? Wanna see some more of his recent work???

Oh ok then lol

What Matt has also forgot to mention is that he has everything to complete a full K20 Conversion (taken from our race EG) so it will be no slouch and Race ready in the next few weeks!!!!!

He is pretty damn good, and all of the above cages are custom built from straight lengths of tube and all built and shaped by Matt to ensure the tightest fit possible, hence why most dont have gussets as there simply isnt any room for them

Amazing work on the cages! :wow:

Are you an FIA approved welder then? I heard something about custom cages needing a certified welder to be eligible for motorsport use in the UK?

FIA relates to things like top flight WRC and BTCC, normal clubman racing/rallying cages just need to be MSA compliant (i.e basic 6 point bolt in cage is acceptable providing it meets the MSA regs)

About time you got on here Mat, cant wait to see it finished!

Ah OK. Do the MSA specs state it needs to be a certified welder or can anyone do one so long as the welds, materials and design are sufficient?

Anyone can do it mate aslong as the material and design is an accepted one etc (i've seen some shocking cages pass scrutineering though :()

Out of interest, what sort of price do you knock a cage out for price wise simlar to your own matt????

A cage like mine would cost about £1800 fitted, but that is using T45 tube for all the additional bars which is expensive stuff. However to have it all in CDS which meets all the MSA requirements will cost more like £1500 fitted. These prices do vary dependant on car and spec. The best part of building bespoke cages is that you can have any design you want as long as it stays within the MSA regs.:blinx: Cheers for the interest. :nice:

I have been asked a question on how much for a car dolly which can be seen in the pictures. I can't post a PM yet as Im a newbie, but £200 for a dolly with heavy duty castors and wooden cross beams to protect the bottom of your car. Cheers for the interest.
