Lloyds ek"3" b-series build update pg2 (230bhp)

Great work :) the car looks great now compared to when you first got it

Just read through, that manifold is what I'm using on mine. Can I ask why you're running a 2.5" when the manifold has a 2.75" collector ?
Ill be running a 3" basically because of the reviews on honda tech

Anyways good build and numbers
I'd also like to know the spec on your intake, looks like something I'd like on mine

2.5 in plenty big enough for a 1600 that is around 200bhp

2.75 is B18/K20 240bhp+ territory along with a 70mm exhaust

Nice update there lad :nice: hope to get a chat to you in the town in a few weeks when I get my yock sorted... wee race then maybe :D :drive:

Very nice both cars look class love the manifold its mad lookin

Yeah but even from a 1.6 they saw gains from the 3" n/a with just bolt ons
I know noise could be an issue though.

One of many 2,5" vs 2,75" vs 3" Exhaust on All Motor - Honda-Tech

If you notice in that link they went from 2.25 up to 3 inch exhaust, so yes they definitely would have seen gains, but there is a good chance there would have been a broader power band with a 2.5 exhaust, people do get confused backpressure is bad, velocity is good,

Aye will have to get chatting you surely, hope your not adding too much power to it, ;) I don't want to be seeing taillights :p

What sort of torque figures you hoping for? ;) I'm happy enuff with my power just need to get my torque up a bit, waiting on a set of itb's at the min, you gonna do the sensible thing and fire in a b18, or you gonna try squeeze more out of the little 16?

fairly major update to make on the wee ek3
took it to kirkistown track a few months back and caused a bit of damage to the engine,
so took it home and pulled it apart, and as usual rather than just a standard rebuild i decided to mess with it,
it received

jdm b18c bottom end,
ported b16b head
skunk 2 pro series springs and retainers
skunk 2 pro1 cams
itr throttle body

the poor k series ek9 has been neglected due to this build but im more than impressed with the results, the low down torque is immense, there is a small dip in the mid range, but im hoping a bump in compression might sort that out as it seems to be just after vtec engagement,
i got the graph printed over my b16b figures so it clearly shows where the gains have been made.

Nice work and the car has made good healthy figures after the rebuild

What did you find when you stripped the motor after Kirkistown?

a very weird discovery, it had the tips on plugs 1 and 4 pushed up, no bearing damage or nothing, its as if the rods were stretched.

That's very weird indeed! I haven't heard of that happening before but at least your crank etc is still good

What about your mates k20 EK, did he find out what was damaged in his motor and why? Has he got it fixed yet?

I couldn't believe that 2 reliable Honda's lay down on the same day before the trackday was over but it could have been worse

me either i put a pair of plugs in it and it ran grand but didnt trust it after that, it didnt do that for just no reason, yea it was the bearings i think he never pulled it apart, he just replaced it with another one,

must get back up again really enjoyed the last day, but im wile paranoid of breaking something again, spent a big part of the k20 fund on this engine,

Baffled sump and less revs might have saved his motor, I read that the standard oil pumps on the k20 can struggle past 9k but I'm not sure if that's true or not

Yea it's great crack and the only way to use the cars properly but as you say it gets expensive. Get the k20 ek9 built up over winter then you have a spare

If you's are heading up next year give us a shout sure
