At least with your dyno figures you know where you are with it. You have a real figure instead of people estimating what they have. "Well its 185hp, and then list off 15 different things they have done to the engine, and add figures together that they think they will get from each item they bolted on and come up with a nice figure. You will be amazed at what you can get from adding new oil, oil filter, plugs, dizzy cap & rotor. I saw a review on performance spark plugs, they made a difference on a dyno, but then they got the same increase in power just by fitting new standard plugs, so just by changing the things that a service will cover should get you up to speed.
I also remember when I was into VWs and there was a rolling road session, some guy thought he had the best VR6 in the world and had spent a fortune on engine mods, "Ive added this that and the other", and seemed to pull a hp figure out of his arse that he thought that the car would be running at, and after all that, the car was actually down on the standard 174hp, which I thought was hilarious, if you had looked up 'gutted' in the dictionary there would have been a picture of him.
