today i was cleanin out the inside of my car, the usual hover n clean down of the plastics, i popped the bonnet and put my hand to rad pipin, it felt as if no water was in it so i took off the rad cap and it needed water so i put more in n bleed it. then this evenin when i was drivin the water temperature guage wasn't goin up to the usual mark??? then when i was drivin it was goin up and down, only a small amount though but it never done this before and the first part that came to mind was the termostat??? what should i do or did i do somethin wrong????

is the ccamshaft gasket extremely important, myself and a mechanic friend of mine were lookin at my engine after i was racing and it looked as if a thin layer of oil was comin out, not out far enough to say it was leakin though, it just looked a bit damp around the gasket. should i change it or will it ok for the moment????

camseals always leak a littlebit, if it gets bad, change it. as far as the thermostat im not sure, i HATE cooling system problems.

Sounds like thermostat to me..... We get that often here in our hot climate....

i'm gonna see how it goes today, it was freezin last nite and the weather in ireland is extremely cold. well cold for us.. i have a hunch its the termostat cause i heard the exact same story as mine and it was his termostat!!!

yeah i topped up the coolant and after that this started to happened

Try taking your thermostat out and put it in A bowl of boiling water this will show if its operating or not it should open fairly quick once placed in the hot water

I'll try that once i find out where it is. ha

Inside the housing where the bottom radiator hose attaches to the motor........

it seems to be back working as normal now. my friend has a ctr also and he was having the same problems with his on the same nite. a bit strange if you ask me?????

OK, My coolant is being used up for some strange reason. I can see it in the overflow bottle the next morning when it is all cooled down again. Everything works as i should and there are no signs of a head gasket failure so Im a little confused where the coolant is going. Has anyone got any ideas what the problem could be?

possibly a bad radiator cap, its the cheapest part that may fail, change it, hopefully its that :)
