Is it bad to clean my car every night?

First of all credit to you for the love you show for your car and effort you put into keeping it clean. If you don`t mind let me point out a few things. What i noticed is you applied polishing compound by hand. That`s wrong and could prove to be harmful if you used a thick grade compound. Only use a machine to apply polishing mesh! Instructions tell you to moisten the applicator because using a machine, it gets hot and the compound turns into tiny stones, not necessary by hand. Also you can reuse your applicator just by giving it a nice wash with water and it`ll be good as new. 5:06-5:08 can clearly see swirl marks on the hood where the light reflects. Try to actually look on your panel from angle so you can see swirls and dull spots.

ps you should something about the gaps fender to hood. too big.

Does that mean that polishing a car is NEVER supposed to be done by hand? I didn't want to use my machine cuz I was afraid it might polish to deep and remove my clear coat. BTW, i was suggesting to throw away old applicator just in case ppl don't clean it completely through and there's still bad stuff it. I say that must throw it away. Lastly, I don't care about the slight swirls u see in the video bc it was much much worse before i polished it. I'm really happy with it already.

that`s right, the result you get with a machine is not even close with what you get by hand, and you could even end up damaging the paint job if use a thick grade mesh. Don`t be afraid of messing it up as long as you keep your machine moving left and right. You should care about the light swirls, because those shouldn`t be there with all that attention you pay to your car. I suggest you took it just once to a professional for a polish and i`m certain you`ll revise everything you do to properly maintain your car.

you seem happy with the result friend,as i gathered from the video :D

nice one.

as for the comment from "pateras" about only using finishing comound with a machine polisher etc, im sure its fine to use by hand,at the end of the day it just takes way longer than using a machine!

i have loads of car cleaning materials and on the instuctions most state use by "hand" or "machine" for most polishes, doing it by hand was the old skool way but with design and research machines came into play and made the job easier/quicker like most things in life.

i would say esp on honda paint just use a light compound, some of the polishes have "fillers" in them also so will fill in the light scratches/cobwebs and make it look as if they are gone, but these will appear again in time.

im no expert in any way, just recently bought a meguairs rotary between a few friends so learning all the time :secret:

as you will see on all the deatailing forums....

"do what works for you"

Any wax or finishing compounds CAN be done by hand and is the best way of doing so. Pateras_vtec says "polish" which can be in liquid form, so is partially right, but if he means finishing compounds such as Carnauba wax, he couldn't be further from the truth. The BEST way to get professional results with these is by hand. NO DOUBT! Any real professional knows that these waxes and finishing agents should be applied by hand if possible. That's why all of the highest grade compounds are not only the most expensive, but are NOT even pliable until kneaded into your hand to prepare them for application. Also, if you are going to do this all by hand; rub small amounts into the palms of both of your hands and massage onto the car.

sorry he was referring to cutting compound and posted finishing by mistake!
i thought the cutting compound items just took longer to "work" by hand compared to machine polishing them.

i have seen the "big boys" operate on the net putting the expensive waxes onto the cars by hand, joy to watch!

im not that flash..........but happy with the results :))

ohh..... "Type-R-Ste" i see your into ito the detailing end of things in a big way, maybe learn few things off yourself, keep posting!!

Yeah mate, similar sort of ethos to the guy who started the thread in terms of always keeping a clean car, haha. No worries, anything you need to know, just give us a shout and I'll do my best to help you out! Those vids you watch regarding the waxing techniques are a good way to learn too, loads of people watch YouTube vids to find out the best methods, items and products to use. Even people who call themselves "professionals" have to learn this stuff from another source, no one finds out by experimenting by themselves on their own pride and joy! Are you using any particular products you like at the moment? Waxes, clays, ect?

Most basic super hard shell turtle wax for wax. Turtle Wax's Polishing Compound for polish. Meguiar's Quik Detailer to clean my car every night after I drive it.

always trying different products as there are so many out there but always seem to go back to ones used before!

i was given a sample of "raceglaze 55" wax and i was quite impressed with it and debating if i should buy a tub at £55,i set myself a limit of approx £30
with waxes but might treat myself :secret:

for longer lasting winter wax i would use "collinite" which seems good value for money and aint as hard to use as some people made it out to be.

I don`t mean wax. Polishing compounds like 3M 50417 and similar cutting and polishing products. Wax always and forever by hand.

i adjusted that post bud as i know you meant compounds, but i wrote wrong thing in that post, sorry!

maybe the more abrasive compounds are better for machine use,but for honda paint you shouldnt need those in general,i bought myself some
3M "Finesse it" as a friend suggested it,im sure you can use the lighter compounds by hand but does take forever.

as i said im just learning this game, was always into keeping the car in shape but just went this little bit further recently with trying to remove "cobweb" scratches etc from the paint with the meguairs rotary.

its damm hard to keep the honda paint scratch free...i think the wind would even scratch it if it was blowing hard!!!! :))

No worries man!
actually there is no such thing as honda paint, or any other maker for that matter. Most OEM use PPG, standox and sikkens. same companies that professionals use in their paint shops. I always prefer a more abrasive compound once a year, then a thinner and finally wax. And just for information EP3 and later models have the worst paint jobs in the company`s history. After the AP1 winning several awards for the paint job in particular and more general subjects, honda uses inferior materials for the paint job. On cars like this i always prefer medium to super fine compounds when polishing.

And one more thing, never ever polish your car in dusty, windy polluted air areas. dust will f*ck your paint job bad, and wind besides carrying dust particles dries out the compound making it impossible to manipulate it.

the difference between honda paint and say Volkswagen paint is unreal, well is over here anyway.
german painwork is known to be very "hard" compared to honda thats why i stated that,a guy i know left his volkswagen in to get compounded etc and guy went through 2 or 3 pads for the rotary he was using!

Honda shouldnt have even bothered putting paint on the EP3,waste of time those cars :secret:
