I have an EK4 and am strongly considering stg1 cams, inlet manifold and TB. I am very aware that most cams and Inlet manos really come into there own above 8k. How do i increase it to 9k. I also want this be safe and reliable. I know i also need to change my valves spring and will need this set up tuned correctly. I currently have an Apexi VFAC2. Don't know if this helps at all.

to change the rev limit u will need to change the ecu, by converting to obd1 that way you can chip it. even better is to run hondata. cause what u are running is a v-tec controller and u cant set up the ignition timming to set the cams up thats why u need to change ecu so u can re map to get the most out it

to go to 9000rpm safely and still make power you need:

-cams with matching valve springs and retainers
-proper EMS
-a proper exhaust system.

I have an exhaust system. Cams and springs on my list.

I'm thinking of a spoon ECU. Will that be ok?

make sure you do some head work first or else you going to bend youre valves or something else get hondata s100,s200 if you find one. cause is discontinued or s300 any of those would be find and a lot cheaper than a spoon ecu

save your money and get a b18 c6 conversion would make more sense in teh long run,,,

I have a B16A and wanted to do

Skunk2 inlet manifold
Spoon 70mm venturi TB
Skunk2 stg 1 cams and valve springs
Increase rev limit to 8500-9000rpm Which ever is safer

I recon i can do all this for about £1500 engine swap for a B18C will cost me 3k

get hondata s300 ecu and get your car remapped if you plan carrying out these modifications, do not go for the cheaper s200 ecu its a waste of money in my opinion as everytime you tune it you need to burn an new chip and use an emulator, with teh s300 ecu you can simply adjust settings on the fly live...

why do you ask questions if you dont take our advice? you already asked if the spoon ecu will work and i told you it WONT! good bye, i wont be posting here anymore... i simply cant stand when people ask for advice and dont take it...

actually you know what, go for it, get the spoon ecu and skunk2 cams, rev to 9000 and kiss your engine good bye.

Jesus chill out. I forgot to ask why won't the spoon one work? Whats wrong with it? You mistake me for some 17 year old. I read the post i did not chose to ignore it just forgot to ask why it will be no good. As far as i'm concerned spoon stuff is very very good. Why will it blow up revving it to 9k on that setup. I thought the engine was more than capable to withstand abuse with cams fitted.

Olly the hondata s300 ecu where will i find one of those are they expensive?

a stock b16a2 can't rev to 9000rpm with stock internals. you have to upgrade your retainers at the least. a b16b though can rev to 9000rpm with stock internals with just a remap. a spoon ecu is preset to rev to 9000rpm so that's why it's no good with your current setup.

Right got you. Spoon is off the cards:nice:

So what would be a safe limit? retainers are???? I understand that valve springs have to be change as the stock ones are not very good and you can get valve float especially with a higher lift. Are the retainers what hold the valve springs? Probably looking like a right noob now.

I really don't have much knowledge of tuning engines and getting them set up and i do not no many people to whom i can ask questions.

I appreciate all advice and take it all on board:nice:

the greatest orchestra in the world cant play a masterpiece without the conductor...

s300 is about £360 or so,,

if you modify your engine in such a way that you are the ecu needs to know that you have so basically you will need a full remap to get the benifits out of your modifications and ensure your engine is running safeley,

theyre is no crystal ball mind reading ecu thats simply plug and play when you get up to these sorts of modifications,,

Lol i understand!!! :nice:

I fully understand that and intend on getting straight to a dyno fo a dyno tune when all is fitted.
