I have a DREAM!

I want to address an issue that I see popping up here and there on forums. This thread will, I'm sure, turn in to a discussion (full of opinion) about what I'm going to say.
I could get hellaciously philosophical but I won't. Suffice it to say that all people have opinions and being that they are of human-kind they are more than entitled to them however stupid or intelligent their opinion may be. These forums (ALL forums) exist to disseminate accurate information and to share opinion and facts. That said I would really like to see us not follow the path of another, and very popular, web forum for Hondas where everything that is said is criticized and looked down upon. I'm sure you're all familiar with the difference between constructive and destructive criticism. Let's try to be constructive around here. There are people that have been doing this Honda hobby for YEARS and there are those that have just started and are naive about what is out there and what they really want. When people come in here and create posts with seemingly idiotic questions break it down for them....actually HELP them. If they failed to use the SEARCH FUNCTION point that out but continue showing them "the light". We can separate ourselves from the other boards by being helpful within reason. There is always going to be "trolls" and there is always going to be that guy with the ricer stuff on his car. We can still put out information in a factual way that benefits our apparently world-wide Honda community.

This has been troubling me for quite a bit so I hope you take this with some seriousness. Your opinion, however stupid or awesome, will still be taken into consideration.:D

Nate

:bow::bow::thanks::thanks::thanks: not every one on here is a honda god. we are always looking for information. to some its mundane, to more its invaluable. we all have different levels of experience. i know im not very experienced at all and love to get info. with that i appreciate that the people that are very ecperienced get tired of giving the same info all day every day so the 'search link' is there for a reason.but i do think there has been alot of attitude lately

Thanks Kev...seems like everyone else either has no opinion or is avoiding the thread, lol.

Good post imo. Lot of things that need to be said. The site is a great resource and I'm sure it will continue to be. :nice:

Good post GT, i think everyone should take it in,endeavour to share good quality info and actual constructive criticism...

really good post man i have witnessed alot of argueing on this forum lately and has involved some senior members and also some new people. we can all get annoyed when the same question is asked over and over but as you said it needs to be resolved. hopefully evryone else can air their views here also

Great post, I agree with you. I see that a lot in other forums.

Agreed, i have been trying to be less of an ******* myself lately...

Yeah, a lot of people are very sensitive, that's also why i haven't been posting lately as much as usual... But **** man some people really are retarted, did you read my intake thread? At the end of it some ******* asks "so does this really make a difference" well gee ******* i just typed a whole thread saying that it did!!! How am i supposed to respond to that?

Or when i make a thread about exhaust manifolds and i clearly state that turbo related parts will not be discussed, 3rd post is a turbo related question, FUUUUUUU!!!! how am i supposed to react? I can only dumb it down so much, thats why i have decided to kick back and just not post as much ya know? But i dig what your dream is, sadly i just don't think i can be a part of it, i put in my work here, a dream like yours is really for the users not a couple mods, everybody needs to be on board and the people that can't hack it should just not post or post less as i have chosen to do.

Who will be first to beat me my post count?

Oh, I do believe I said "within reason". If the person failed to not only read but COMPREHEND what you wrote then their fragile little internet psychi is in your hands. It's like Championship White who thinks everything I say is negative. I made a smart ass (sarcastic) comment and he assumes I'm being patronizing and condescending. It's amazing what you can learn about a person based of how they interpret inanimate words.

Haha, thank you for mentioning me in person. And what have you learnt about me from my reaction to your 'inanimate' words?

Here's a an example for you:

I am neither patronizing nor condescending. I'm merely pointing out the futility of your request.

That made me laugh when I read it in response to my post, you respond to an accusation of being condescending by being even more condescending! Hilarious. I didn't feel the need to respond at the time as I'd rather not get into an arguement and thought I'd let it be, but since you are petty enough to mention it in this thread then I thought I'd better respond.

And personally I like the forum how it is, I haven't seen anyone being malicious. This is a car forum not a creche to mollycoddle children, if people ask a stupid question then they should be prepared to receive a stupid answer.

@ Blinx, you should just post as you see fit, I've read alot of your posts and I rarely see any anger that isn't warranted, and you always apologise if the line is crossed. So don't leave!

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, CW. But I think that you misinterperate a simple statement as way more than it is. It's ok though...I can agree to get along at least. ^_^

My 2c:

I'm a Honda Nut.

I like helping other Honda Nuts, I don't care whether its PM or public, we all had to start from somewhere, right?

I still remember asking the New Zealand Honda Club forum "will a pod filter be good for my EK9?"

Since then I've got a B16b with ITB, crazy cornering suspension setup, the list goes on.

Anyone wanting to get even the smallest bit of knowledge from me is more than welcome, no matter how trivial it may seem.

At the end of the day we're all (pretty much) driving the same car, right?

im liking this. man it was only yesterday that my friends and myself were talking about how different people react. as you can tell im fairly new but ive still seen the same things being asked..... must be annoying......BUT we all have to learn somewhere

It's not just one statement, it's all the posts I've recently read by you. I wouldn't usually choose to proliferate an arguement but since you mention my username on random threads then I feel I have to. It's not like your patronising comments were even correct in my thread:

http://www.ek9.org/forum/support-suggestions/22370-bump-tool-threads.html#post237899

In another thread you boast how much money you make and are rude and condescending to several users. I've already received a PM thanking me for sticking it to you because the user in question didn't want to get into an arguement with you at the time.

It's ironic that you began THIS sanctimonious thread as you incited me to argue with you elsewhere and caused another user to repress their comments so as not to cause an arguement due to, again, your smarmy attitude in yet another thread.

I will not be posting further on this thread so I hope you choose not to use your moderator powers to edit or delete this post as that would be very unsporting of you.

Imho you can better take your conflict with GTLVR82 this to "support/suggestions" :)

My opinion on this is that you may expect from people to do a bit of trouble to find things they want to know. For example, a few days ago someone started a thread about if he could uses Prelude axles for an H22 swap and what engine mounts he should use...thats like asking what color grass is! That has been discussed so many times and the answer to those questions could have been found in hit #1 and #2 on Google with the search query that I took the trouble to provide. What happened? I got called a twat by the user...Wtf.

Imho this would be a good way to react:
- Stay friendly as long as the TS is too
- Point the user in the right direction by telling them what we expect (taking the trouble to search themself)
- Point the user in the right direction by giving the first step towards the info needed, but not doing everything for them

The problem with (imho) staying friendly and keep doing everything for the user, is that a board is a lot less interesting when a board is filled with simple questions that have been asked an answered a 1000 times and can be found within 1 or 2 minutes. Valuable users will disappear or stop/decrease giving valuable information (you can already read that in blinx9900 replies in this thread). The board will become an online helpdesk instead of a board consisting of users that have new information and great discussions filled with information and opinions from people that know what they're talking about. You have to ask wether that's the thing you want or not.

And no, it's not happening. Yet. I assume people want this to be prevented.

Maybe you are starting to ask yourself if this will scare people away. Then ask yourself this: do you want people to join the board that react agressively, given that you have replied in a KIND way, explaining what we expect and pointing the user in the right direction and thereby helping and saving the user some trouble he should have done themself? Imho you want the users that show understanding and do some trouble, even if they do not succeed the first time. Not spoiled users that think they have the right to use a board as a personal helpdesk.

I'm not that kind of mod...like I said you're entitled to your opinion and I'm not going to censor that. If you or anyone else has issues with me feel free to air it out. I'd prefer PM but if it really bothers you then by all means make a thread about it. I didn't brag, I didn't condescend...and I truly, honestly believe you're reading into my words because of my position. Too bad I can't convey emotion to you but I'm dead serious.
