Hey guys, i have a ek3 - Civic 1.5 i LS 1999

And im looking to get HID's as the standard lights are rubbish lol, does anybody know what size i need? I've been told by a mechanic before its H7 but apparantly it should be H4 like every other civic? Can anybody verify this?

Cheers!

Does any EK come fitted with HIDs as standard?

It should be H4 mate HIDs which are high and low beam is what you are looking for

Forgive me if I am being dense here, but aren't aftermarket HIDs illegal? Something about the scatter not being right on normal halogen reflectors?

My HIDs have the exact same scatter pattern thing as my previous normal lights :nice:

Erm...I guess so. I meant that I took them to get the headlight alignment checked before (as the old bulbs were sh!te) and after and the guy that did it said the pattern was the same. Also if you park quite close to a garage door and put the lights on...they have the same patter as normal lights (distinctive flat phase across the beam and then flicks up on the passenger side). If you that all makes sense?

I get you, but from what I can make of this, according to the law, that is not legal.

Sounds like any aftermarket HID kit needs to be a full headlight assembly with self levelling, self cleaning and type approval?

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't realise lol +rep for you

they're a waste of money imo anyway. just get yourself some normal bulbs and make sure they have E1 marked on them as i can gaurantee it has crappy E13 bulbs in it...

All aftermarket HID kits are illegal.

Reason being is that xenon lights must have a projector style lens, self leveling system and washers to clean the lens.

I have them on my other car though and never had any issues/problems. Thinking about buying a set for the 9 as my lights are dire.

The problem is, if you are used to driving with HIDs, then your sensitivity to them goes down due to having more light to drive with, but for the poor sod coming the other way with crappy little halogens, his eyes are set for the darkness he's used to and your misaligned HIDs are pretty much blinding, even on low beam. :(( I often have to slow down to crawling pace on some roads due to headlight dazzle from these kits, I fully approve of them being illegal and would urge anyone thinking of fitting them to think twice about it! It wouldn't take much for an oncoming motorist to lose sight of the side of the road, clip the verge and swerve into your path, just a little something to bear in mind! :nono:

Ahh, thank you for all the info and heads up guys! :)

I'll see then, even just HID bulbs will do me lol. The standard bulbs i have at the moment suck a$$! Can't see that good at night, i could probably get better light from my phone lol :/

Cheers again!
