you will have to apply for a new one in writing from your local dvla office and it takes anywhere up to 30 days :((

I'm not sure that will work since the car is being imported from a different country? But then i know you have done this before Gav so you probably know better than I do. It would be however slightly worrying if DVLA registered a car that has not been previously registered in the UK without any proper documentation! When it comes to registering a car without V5 that has already been registered with DVLA (so any car on UK plates) my understanding of the procedure is that you send them the form (can't recall the name right now), they notify the current registered keeper and if they don't hear back from them within a certain period of time (2 weeks maybe?) DVLA assume the current keeper agrees with the transfer. This is the reason why it takes longer, we never got V5 with our Vitara and it took about a month for a new one to arrive. If you can't find it then I would try to phone DVLA and ask them, but you may need to contact the previous owner who might need to get a duplicate in Ireland and send it to you. Can you not drive the car for some time on the Irish plates anyway?

When i said contact your local dvla office what i meant and should of said was, contact your local dvla office and they will put you in touch with the appropriate office in Ireland to get a new one :nice:

This may not be as easy as stated, I've got the same problem with my shell. I lost the Irish logbook like an idiot(carelessness) and it was a long procedure. I'm not sure where the car came from but if it was imported from Japan then you may have to talk to the person who imported it or the ask the person who sold you the car. In my case I asked the company in Ireland(vtec performance) to send me a new a logbook which they said they will get but will take sometime so I'm waiting. Before I contacted vtec performance I talked to both UK and Irish Honda asking for a proof of manufacturing letter, both said they can't help so contacted Honda Japan and same response. It was a very long process so I would suggest asking the previous owner which is the easiest.

Yeah, reason i know is the guy that bought my last ek9 the 1st time bought it on the irish plates but he damaged the irish log book before he got a chance to register the car and had to get a new one. That is the process he went through, contacted dvla they gave him the appropriate details of the Irish office he was to contact. He then had to apply in writing for a new one. This took about 1 month for him to get.

DVLA are pants! I asked them before doing anything if I can just contact Irish DVLA and they said that wouldn't help, only the person who had the car previously can apply for a new one. I've spent the past month or so with an EK9 I can't drive

Just ring up lad you got off and get him to apply for new one. Can't imagine it would take too long to get log book in Ireland replaced if lost
