I;m getting my head gasket put on soon was my was asked if anyone knows the head bolt tightening stages?

arp studs or stock bolts? you should use arp if you the head is gonna be off :nice:

anyways it goes in 3 steps 29, 51, then 72 ft lbs. here is a link, pic at the bottom tells you the sequence:

The head is off atm, was going to use stock bolts. Is arp studs better?

Does anyone know where i can get hold of them in the UK?

Thanks blinx for the steps and link!

ye they are much stronger. sorry to bust in on your thread hope you dont mind lol i have a q.

so is it ok to re use the stock head bolts as far as i know they aint strech bolts so should be ok to re use or have i got it all wrong. sorry yellow lol saves me starting a new thread on the same thing

you can reuse stock head bolts but i would not, also the difference between the ARP and stock is this:

-ARP is a stud with a nut on the other end
-stock is a 1 piece bolt
-ARP is made from stronger material

this all will allow you to torque the head down harder, 80ft lbs IIRC and are much less likely to stretch.

No Problem, i was a lil concerned about that too but for peace of mind i've just ordered a set of ARP Studs

I've also got Stage 1 clutch, lightened flywheel, 4-2-1 man and spoon ecu to be fitted by next week! Can't wait! :D
