engine problem

I have a really strange problem that has come from one day to the other. The car would not start the other day but 6 hours earlier it was running just fine. She was low on fuel so I put in 20l, i then drove 5 miles and parked the car, the day after she would not start.

When i turn the key the starter goes round and she wants to fire up but nothing happens, a little bit of black smoke comes out the exhaust and she backfires a few times. i have put a new distributor (spell check) on & new cables.

Pulled out the spark plugs and they are black.

I opened the tank and found some sludge in the bottom of the tank where the fuel pump is, I have sucked it out and put on a new petrol filter.
Now I got the car started but when I push the throttle down she sounds like a tractor and backfires sometimes. The engine has not used any coolant, it is still at the same level.

Pulled out the plugs again after she started up and they seem fine again....strange.

Any ideas what else it can be. My next plan is to empty the fuel tank and try with some new petrol, but could it be the head gasket or even a piston problem?

I´m not driving anywhere as it sounds like a tractor and dont want to make matters worse.

there are no engine code errors coming up.

-change the spark plugs if you have not already
-do a compression check
-if both check out ok it could be the main relay, i just replaced mine $60 OEM from Honda.

Sounds like it could be miss firing?

Does it seem like it is running on three cylinders when driving...as you say it sounds like a tractor?

If so, could be ignition related or a faulty injector?

Not sure about the sludge and stuff though.

changed the plugs also and that did not help.

sounds like she is running on 3 cylinders, I will have a compression test on Monday.

I have a Hondata s300, can that be faulty.

looks like water in the fuel from the night before i filled her up. Sucked out the old petrol & water and put new in (petrol that is).
I was afraid that it was something serious as i put in new spark plugs and she still would not start, well she did but sounded like a diesel and the spark plugs turned black straight away.
A friend of mine checked if the timing belt slipped and he did a compression test and everything was fine. We then put in a 3rd set of spark plugs and she just started up as nothing ever had happend.
The other spark plugs are done, so something did not agree with them.
