Right before you say it i did read most of the sticky on this subject but its just too confusing for me.:D...so can anyone tell me which oil i should put in my ek4.I want 0w-30 or 5w-30 but i think these are synthetic.would it be bad to put this into the car or should i use semi-synthetic.

You can use it, some mechanics recommends, that if you're using normal oil, you should use semi synthetic first and then full synthetic, I only use semi or full synthetic in my cars, for the price semi synthetic is a good option :)

i found my old sir used tu burn a bit of 5w30 fully synthetic whereas never burnt any semi synthetic 10or15w40

Does the ek4 has stamped on the oil cap the type of oil it should be used for the engine? :nerv:

Mate i personally think 5w 40 fully synthetic is best for the b series engine.

depends how often you are changing it etc too.....

but in my EK9 i change the oil/filter every 2k miles (maybe a bit excessive but i drive it quite hard so want to make sure it's well looked after) and always use a Hamp oil filter and Castrol GTX 10W40 oil

use the same oil/filter in my dads FD2 ctr and it runs sweet too :)

Mate i personally think 5w 40 fully synthetic is best for the b series engine.

:nice:

Silkoline PRO S 5W 40 a fully synthetic and far superior to mineral oils.

As recommended by opie oils :nice:

I certainly wouldn't run 0w 30 or 5w 30 in the EK4 honda recommend a 10w 40 the others will be just to thin.

I personally think the fully synthetic silkoline will give you a optimum ammount of protection. It will protect it better on start up because the oil will be more fluid (the 5W bit) at low temperatures and at higher temperatures (the 40 bit) will give a much wider temperature band to run in keeping the oil more stable and at its most optimum viscosity. Particualrly important if you love the VTEC and occasionally track it due to the higher temperatures seen.

You will find particularly if going from a 10w 40 to a 5w 40 or even thinner 5w 30 or 0w 30 your valve train will make more noise than usual this is normal as the viscosity of the oil isn't as thick as the 10W 40. Resulting in almost sound deadening the valve train.

HTH and kind of makes sense.:nice:

Sounds good...silkolene is a bit hard to get my hands on .would i be ok useing castrol edge sport 0w-40 fully synthetic then.???
