Hi Guys

This is my 1st post here, although I've been browsing through the site for some time. Great site to learn about the B16b engine :)

I'll be having an engine conversion going from a D15b 130 hp engine to the highly regarded B16b engine on my car.

I'm looking for around 210hp, but the big problem for me is that we do not have a dyno in my country.

I wanted to know what are the mods that I can do to get 210hp from the engine without having to go for dyno tuning.

I was thinking:

1. header
2. lighter flywheel
3. Skunk2 pro intake manifold
4. Maybe spoon clutch
5. Maybe straight piping

With all these I may get around 10-15hp if I'm not mistaken

Camshafts are out of question as I will not be able to tune the car.

buddy club spec V camshafts and camgears, buddyclub spec II exhaust (straight), power chamber air intake, port jobs, denson iridium racing (maybe u laught but belive or not they give ~4 hp compared to standards)...

If Omni pulled a 200whp from a b16a, u can pull a 210 whp EASY with a b16b

IF I'm not mistaken, you will need dyno tuning if you change the camshafts....and that is not possible for me..

you might benefit from an aftermarket ECU e.g. Spoon, J's Racing... that don't need tuning but don't think you could reach that power without internal mods and tuned motor....

use a b18c instead. youll get there much easier. With a J's racing intake a exhaust, headers (toda), skunk 2 pro inlet

yeah I'm biased.... but I know for a FACT... gearing mods are real world faster than dyno proven increases of 10-15whp.

new clutch/flywheel + short gearing is something I would take any day over the mods you (maupassant) listed.

You could also perform light mods such as an intake, thermoblock spacer, decat and others to help driveability/slight measurable power increases as well.

If you don't have access to a dyno you can still street tune, if you cant street tune then gearbox mods would be the best place to start after intake/exhaust/header/decat.

I'm biased toward a B16b, so B18c is out if question :p

New clutch and flywheel will be fitted along with skunk2 pro intake manifold

Decat will not be done as I caretoo much for the environment :p j/k

Street tune also not possible for the time being as there is no good tuners to do it propoerly.

Thanks for the replies guys :nice:

Then if i was you i would do header/exhuast and then a short gear set or FD. There is no other way to make power without tuning.

B16B 185hp (crank), B18C 205hp (crank), add those aftermarket exhaust, intake, ECU & close ratio gears & you'll be exceeding your goal easily. even with B16B you'll have a hard time getting real 200hp at the wheels let alone 210.

get the '98 spec B18C if you can.

Maupassant, a 98+ type-r B18C is your best bet if you have no choice for tuning. It's like an ultra b16b. It has a better final drive than the b16b and it has dual syncro's in first gear. If you can't tune just skip the smaller b16b altogether and start higher up on the honda power food-chain.
With the 98+ b18c you would see small power gains from a good intake+filter and exhaust, the header is already very good. Try increasing you ignition timing by 3 or 4 degrees as well, this should give a small amount of power.

as others have mentioned...just putting in the clutch/flywheel will do nothing to improve performance much.

You either do the final drive of the 4.9 variety or a set of close gears.

fitting the S2 pro manifold and NOT having the ability to tune is counterproductive to your cause. This is not to say the CTR one is perfect and cannot be beat. I believe the S2 is superior, but not necessary until you have the ability to adjust the AFR/timing properly.

In my opinion you will have to do all possible bolt on changes to get 210hp on wheels.
Regardless the power, acceleration can be obtained (with same powerplant) with transmission upgrade (You have Mfactory FD and close gear set).

Well you should increase worrying for environment on some other things, so that you decrease on exhaust. :) Balance is good!

210hp on engine or on wheel?if 210whp...stroke ur b16b to 1.8cc...choose a good cam like jun3 or skunk2 stage3 or toda c2...properly tune like crome,hondata,power fc...and u can get 210whp....cheerss....

if ur country dont have dyno...u can tune on the road...make sure u have wideband afr...

I was looking at the JUN stroke kit, but its damn expensive :S

I've decided to drive the car with the stock engine for a while.

im still stock b16b too... installed simota air filter, high performance plug and cable, 2.5" center till end Eksoz piping.. stock header...
I would lik to ask tat if i change 421 header,4.785 FD and lighten flywheel wit racing clutch... will i need to dyno tuning?

I don't think that you'll need dyno tuning for these basic mods.

BTW, I'm buying the b16b from Malaysia :)

wher u from? how come u buy B16B frm malaysia? it quite pricey her.. for engine conversion set, cost rm11000 thousand about 3 thousand plus USD without bodyparts..
