ek9 turbo build

Hi, thought i would update this project thread instead of starting a new one as i now own this car, im actually the second owner since the work in this thread was done.

I have done a fair bit of work to this car in the year that ive owned it which include sorting out wiring issues, changed clutch/ flywheel, basic servicing etc i will find the photos i have and put them up.

Plans for the car are basically to make it as usable on track as it can be and keeping it up together, i would like to enter it into a bit of competitive motorsport eventually but we will have to see.

The car is on axle stands atm as ive ordered a complete hardrace camber/ toe adjustment kit , bushes and roll centre adusters so the suspension parts are at my mates being blasted.

Heres a few pics (will post work progress pics soon)

Few progress pics

Exedy clutch failed so replaced with competition paddle clutch and fidanza flywheel

Refurbed driveshafts, coated with epoxy then sprayed in fiat exploit yellow which i had laying around

The inlet manifold had barbed steel hose fittings screwed into it to serve as vacume ports for the brake servo, boost solenoid and gauges, but they were leaking so i had aluminium stubs made up and welded onto it in there place.

Also noticed there was a blanking plug missing off of the tb so replaced that

Whilst the inlet manifold was off i tidied up the injector wiring as it was a bit of a mess, i didnt get a picture of the wiring in the loom wrap that i used unfortunately.

Fixed the breather catch can in place as it was loose and moving about.

Ive replaced the exhaust manifold studs as there were a few missing, also made up a turbo brace as it kept blowing turbo flange gaskets, it bolts to were the pas pump would have and clamps to the compressor housing, seems to have worked as its been fine since.

Sorry for the long post, will update again soon

What did you use as a clamp? Jubilee or something?

I used a stainless exhaust clamp, its not ideal but will do for now.

I was thinking of making up a bit that curves around the compressor outlet and then have a bolt that clamps it on tight, a bit like a mikalor clamp which i would have welded to the bracket thats been made.

Do you run a turbo brace on yours?

Nah I haven't got a brace in mine ATM. Strong cast manifold seems to be holding up but time will tell

I suppose a cast manifold would be much stiffer than a tubular any way.

What pads would you recommend for the rear? Im pretty sure it has ds2500 on the front

I've got yellowstuff on the rear ATM but will be changing to match the front carbon Lorraine rc6 pads I have.
They get very hot in track and think having a better pad on the rear may take some stress off the front.

Great work on this man nice to see you took it an imroved its quality rather than started slapping on new bits if ya get me haha

Its been a little while since i last updated as it took a while for the hardrace bits to arrive as they didn't have some of the bits in stock.

I also had a problem with one of the trailing arms which only came to light when my friend started sand blasting the suspension parts, the problem with the n/s trailing arm was that it was rotten through between the two holes that the brake caliper bolts on to, im quite glad i had these blasted as i would never of noticed.

I sourced a new one from rmotion :)

Heres a pic of all the sand blasted bits together will get a pic up of all the hardrace stuff soon.

The parts are now at another friends being painted so should hopefully have them back on sunday

Thanks, it beats sanding by hand lol, the parts were really rusty.

I had a call from my mate to pick the parts up, they look ok shame that the metal is quite pitted from the blasting, next time il use epoxy mastic as a base instead of primer as it should cover up the pitting

Sorry about the crappy phone pics

Here's a pic of the full hardrace bush kit, rollcentre adjusters and adjustable camber/toe arms front and rear

I'm hoping the car will feel nice n tight after corner weighting and a geo setup.

Next job is to fit the bushes and order new bolts from honda as the old ones are way past there best.

Nice hardrace collection! Good quality products hardrace.

Cheers mate, I'm pleased with the quality.

I've had a right nightmare trying to get the old bushes out!

Ended up using a hole saw drill attachment to cut the rubber and inner sleeve out and then a hack saw to cut two slits in the outer metal bit of the bush.

I then used a hammer and punch to collapse the outer bit in.

Any tips for installing the New bushes?
