Hello EK9'ers
Ive been told by a few people that a cheap way of getting my car slightly lower is to get a set of EK9 shocks and springs.
How much would this lower my EJ9 by? and also i was wondering if the EK9 shock absorbers are shorter than standard ones??

Any info would be great guys, thanks

Martin

Thinks it's about 10-20 mm. But the EK9 suspension will also perform a lot better than
EJ9. So it's definately worth buying :)

Was just wondering if I could use them japspeed adjustable springs with them to get abit lower without bursting the shocks.
Probably will just go for ebay coilovers. Eventually...

I had EK9 shocks and springs on my EK3, I could search some photos.

With a D series engine, rear will be lower than front by 10 or 15mm due to engine weight difference. It's barely visible but the most annoying is it created a strange handling feeling ... The car became "blury" or something like that.

Youc could get EK9 shocks with aftermarket springs. I think it's the best solution.

DO NOT BUY EBAY COILOVERS!!!!! they are the worst item you could ever buy!!

Save that extra bit and buy EK9 shocks and eibach springs. I have this set up on my EK9 and its perfect! :nice:

There are some very good coilovers avalable on ebay such as the BC coilovers they are very good and made by the same factory to the same specs as the apexi coilovers.

I agree the cheapish chinese coilovers avalable on the bay are rubbish but dont make the mistake of dismissing everything on there as junk.

The unbranded chinese crap are the ones in question. If it has a brand, it has a brand regardless of where it is sold. Even then it's usually still crap... :p

I had TA Techniqs cheap ebay coilovers on my last EJ9 and they were fine for the use I had them.
A good tasty drop (80mm all roundish) and with it only being a 1.4 I won't be breaking any performance records lads.
Plus a 3yr warranty so can be replaced if they break.......

One question I'd like to add to this if I may, I was thinking of getting some Eibach Springs (roughly a 40mm drop) but would you think these would fit on EK9 struts? or would you advise me to look for another set of dampers?

Thanks for the response.

Oh and sorry for the high-jack.

A picture of my former EK3 with EK9 shocks+springs to illustrate what I said:

Then I sold shocks and springs to a girl with an EK4:

I think you can clearly see the difference on front ...

Eke shocks with eibach springs will be your best bet and handle rather well.

Alright, that's settled then. Will have to get around to getting that sorted when I've got the funds :)

Also a good combination are Koni "Yellow" dampers with Eibach springs. I loved that combination on my old ej9... very nice handling!

The picture with the white ej9 looks crazy. Some beer in the hatch? :D

Problem I always find when people buy ebay coilovers is that they don't tend to last, or they give an undesired effect.

But then again, if you are only after getting the car lower by all means. :)

thanks b2, well i had them on my last EJ9 for about 6months and they were fine for me. never had any problems with them.
only problem i had was fitting them. ended up needing 2 new bushes for the rear LCA's is this common?

I would just go for EK9 shocks, I bought some with RS*R springs and they are worlds apart from my old standard EK4 setup. I can promise you won't regret getting some.

Absolutely no point in going for cheap coilovers. Honda put loads of time and money into developing a setup which would work well on both road and track. Cheap coilovers aren't going to come close in terms of quality

I ran a set of ek9 shocks and springs on my ek3 and they where an upgrade, the spring rates are nearly 3 times as stiff i think as the standard ek3/ ej9 suspension is wollowy and soft.

They defo increase the handling capabilities of the car and i thought they where a good improvement for the £100 i paid for them. My ej9 is running ek9 shocks with progressive tanabe springs, they are slightly stiffer than the standard ek9 springs but ive yet to see if they respond better ( probably not).

The ek9 springs will only very slightly lower the vehicle though. id recommend a rear arb if you dont have 1.
