when i first got my car it pulled like a train. have had it for 1 year. replaced oil an oil filter not long ago as dont drive it very often.

the problem is when accelerating it doesnt seem to have the power even when it hits vtec. it makes the right noises but no speed. it accelerates but is much slower.

i am going to replace spark plugs to see if that helps.

any ideas of what it could be?

ummm had this when I had a faulty knock sensor. I went and disabled the knock sensor when I tuned my car on crome, its has NEVER happened again. does it always do it or just sometimes? mine used to do it just randomly. if I shut it off and back on it would come back to normal

Maybe you're so use to the power, it just dosn't feel quick anymore?

Check for leaks, and make sure your engine managment light bulb hasn't blown.

hmmm not to sure if it does it al the time going to take it out today. think its all the time, there is no smoke an vtec engages just it doesnt seem to pull like it used too, where do i find this knock sensor?

no def lol on power an engine light not blown, checked oil. reason why i know is coz got two ek9s, my brother came out with me last nite for a drive an you could tell

I'd start with a full tune up, then if the problem persists, continue on from there with the likely causes. I've seen this happen so many times. People have problems with their cars so they start diagnosing and spending money on parts when it's nothing more than simple maintenance.

what about transmission oil or maybe even the clutch?

and if the knock sensor is that will it still hit vtec?
I know vtec activates because of oilpressure + temp
and if im correct the knock sensor is there for the detonation right?

but how can u tell if you have a faulty knock sensor?

grtz

suppose ya could do resistance check on a knock sensor with a multimeter using manufacturer specs but i think it could be oxygen sensor!?!? friend of mine had this prob with an eg6, no check light but loss of power.. could ya try one from a mates type r or sumtin??

Do basic maintenance for the car.

Looking at a Haynes manual that includes the B16A2, I'll go down the list for maintenance items that could affect power.

Every 250 Miles-
Tire pressures

3000 Miles-
Change oil and filter, or change to synthetic oil of OEM weight and go by that change interval.

15,000 Miles-
Check and/or adjust valve clearances
Air filter
Inspect fuel system

30,000 Miles
Change plugs
Check and/or change wires, cap, rotor
Check PCV valve
Replace fuel filter

I'll add that you should check your wheel bearings, axles, and brakes for having too much play or being stuck. Not sure of your mileage, but the more mileage, the more of a chance the item(s) affecting power loss will not be found in basic maintenance. For example, a clogged catalytic converter or worn engine sleeves.

sounds like the cat could be clogged. is v-tec very loud when it engages. my mate had this problem when he bought his eg sir2 everythin worked v-tec ect ect but it just felt like it was hanging back in v-tec and it was very loud as if all this air was gettin sucked in and not doing anythin. we took the cat off and had a look you couldnt even see through it. so we smashed all the ceramic out put it back together and the car now goes like stink so worth lookin at

yeah as above cat could be blocked my old eg was very slow with the cat on and still had quite an aggresive change over but no power!when it was taken off the car was fine, much better, more power and pull!
