hope someone can help. ok i am running a 00 civic vti(b16a2) all i need to know is will an ecu of an ek9 work on my car. im not to sure it will as the stroke on the 2 engines are different and im sure this will effect how the ecu will work. is there anyone who has done this conversion or can fill me with some info

cheers callum

Both engines have a 77.4mm stroke actually ;) I believe your car is obd2a so as long as you get an obd2a ek9 ecu it will "work" I don't know how well it will drive though as ek9 vtec transition is higher up so it might drive funny.

thanks blinx. i always thought the b16b had a longer stroke as the timming belt is 2 teeth longer. my car already has ek9 cams v/springs and retainers. i was really wanting a spoon ecu of a ek9 as they are easyer to come across. not sure how much better it will be as my v-tec cross over is at 5500 on ek4 ecu. i understand i will get more revs with the spoon but is it worth it as my cams dont make power over 8400 and i redline at 8500. will i get more gains out an ek9 ecu or better with the spoon

cheers callum

i would Definetly try an EK9 ECU before you whack in a spoon

If it runs ok on the Stock ECU then think about the spoon. Just my opinion

ye thats an idea i thought of. it would be so much easyer if someone had tryed this mod before so i know it works. also all the people i know all have obd2b ek9s so would prob mean gettin a harness to test it

hey lum . i think mr haribo has a conversion harness in his bedside drawer lol . if noone has tried this before . feel free to try my ek9 ecu and if u want u can try my spoon one also to see how it goes . but as said would be better if someone knows that this will work first .

sounds like a plan john. i forgot haribo had that harness. only thing is what if the spoon ecu does work and i take off and never come back with it lol. u will just need to put your ek9 ecu back in lol.

Correct, the Spoon unit really is almost worthless and should only be considered for those who have mild plans for there car and have ZERO access to a tuner or a dyno as a tuned ecu would be superior to the spoon unit in every way. Perhaps something for you to consider ;) But if i was you i would either go with something tunable or a stock ek9 ecu for now.

answer - 96-98 ek civics pre face lift obd2a

98-00 facelift civics ob2b

ecu you need is a obd2b straight plug and play!! johns or haribos will wrk in yours bud,

hows you?drop me a pm ryan

so if am running obd2b with my car being 00 that will mean the ek9 ecu will plug straight in and go
If it`s off a facelift (98-00) EK9 then yes. if it`s off a prefacelift, you`ll need a jumper harness from obd2a to obd2b.
