ECU & Ignition Issue

Ok long shot here and mostly directed to the mappers as they might have experienced this. I know in the UK you mostly use Hondata ECU's and other software to map and the normal ignition systems are standard with leads directly to the distrubuter.

Yesterday i was at the tuner to have an AEM EMS V2 mapped and i also have Ultra Ignition system which have leads that do not go directly to the distributer but are sort of a stand alone system.

After some setting up with the amp the car just would not start and sort of kncking and would only start like after 6 to 8 attempts. After starting it the mapper decided to go for a spin to see how the car goes and on 2nd, 3rd and 4th the car would knock on 2800 revs then nomral again past that.

Almost giving up hope the mapper decided to remove the Ultra ignition leads and use standard leads directly in the distributer and the car started no issues and no more knocking on 2800 revs. So problem is the Ultra ignition system with AEM ECU. We tried a Hondata ECU with same map but no issues there.

So clearly its an issue with compatibility in some way with AEM and Ultra ignition.

Anyone might have experienced or read somewhere on this as i cant seem to find anything on Google with AEM having crappy support and no sign of a website of Ultra ignition systems.

Any help much appreciated in some way or another.

Sounds like you have a issue with electrical interference. Where is the Ultra ignition mounted?

The Ultra ignition is under the black HKS Racing Induction cover on the left hand side of engine bay and there is also a silver thingy (sorry im not technical) near the fire wall just in front of the intake manifold that is part of the system too.

Any ideas? Had no issues when i used a Hondata ECU with this Ultra Ignition sytem....
