i've advertised in the wanted section for a new engine but not sure if i actually need one, as i don't know how damaged mine is. i had a compression test and they all read 220 which is about rite apparently. correct me if i'm wrong. but my problem is that it goes through 5 litres of oil in about 200 miles sometimes less. it isn't leaking. but my engine is burning the oil and it shoots it out in a cloud of soot and it sticks to the rear of my car. i've been tol it could still be piston rings, valve stem oil seals or just the breather section in the engine (which i don't have a clue about) could be blocked. can anyone provide me with anything more? has this happened to them?? i'm at a loose end it does better mpg to petrol than to oil lol

change your PCV valve, If you still have the line hooded up from your valvecover to intake arm check your throttle body to see if its oily. Burning loads of oil could be piston rings, valveguide seals or rod/main bearings!! Either way its nothing a good rebuild can't fix :nice:

Sounds like the exact same thing that happened to my wee bro's BMW 328i. He changed the PCV valve, valve stem seals, headgasket, any other gaskets and cleaned the breathers and gave it a good clean and service! After that is was as good as new! Good luck mate! :)

only 86k. i traced it back and it was serviced by honda up until about 3 years ago so pretty sure no one has fiddled the mileage

where abouts is the pcv valve or does it have any other names cos i haven't heard of that before

Sounds like a faulty PCV valve to me.

Leakdown test and rad pressure test will tell you alot more.

PCV valve sits in between cyl 3&4 intake manifold runners close to the head and has a pipe from it to the main plenum of the intake manifold. grip it and firmly pull it up and itll come straight out. You may find it cakes in oil AND the line to the intake mani would be too. Change it for a known good PCV and test. Any oil still in the INtake mani would take a while to go through.

for some reason my motor burns oil too but more like 1 quart every 1500 miles and i dont see any leaks whatsoever but i will try my pcv also

only use ones that are from another honda. you may take yours off and rinse it out with brake clean spray or petrol then let it evaporate dry as oil residue may be stopping it sealing at high rpm.

the valve allows vapours to flow into the intake valve at low rpm but at high rpm it closes that valve under vacuum to stop oil being sucked up out of the stock catch-can thats on the back of the block.

part number 6 is the pcv

would somewhere like linco be a good place to go then or should i go o a honda dealership. i've dealt with linco in the past, and there parts seem sound enough. it sound like it could well be that then. as it only burns the oil and leaves it up my car when i go past roughly 4000rpm its ok for plodding about but you don't always want to plod about when you know you have vtec. would this problem have damaged any oil seals, piston rings or anything more major?

just pull it out and clean it first like I said. then report back with results after a days use startign with a full sump of oil. :nice:

ok taken my pcv valve out this morning and let it soak in petrol. i looks brand new as the code on it is so clear. cleaned out the breather pipe with some ecomate. its like an industrial oil and grease remover that i borrowed from work. i'm not entirely sure how to do a leakdown test. so i'll see how that goes as i'm in grimsby tomorrow. what will be the next step if its not the pcv valve?

ok after a few days of having a replacement pcv valve on off my mates crx it still hasn't solved the problem although it does look better than it was. i've left the one that come off mine to soak in petrol. where do i go from here???

i don't have a tester. are these cheap to buy or is it just as easy to go to a garage to have the test done??? sorry if i'm asking a novice question but i am only a novice at doing proper things under the bonnet.
