Hey

I own a dc5 but ive been thinking a lot lately about civics. Reason being is i want to build a track/weekend car out of one of the above.

The dc5 is my daily probably worth about £7k but in my opinion its a lot of money to be throwing round a track, ( as much as i would love too). Another reason is the running costs,

small tires and brakes of the civics vs the 17s and brembos on the teg which will be getting munched up on track

Im on the look out for a daily runabout at the moment so the teg can go in the garage keeping the miles down. 80k+ on it. I do a 50 mile a day commute

Im just after your opinions on switching to a civic, most likely id go for an ek4 or eg6 unless i can get an ek9 for silly money

Strip it out and strengthen it and sort chassis firstly. Then maybe look into power mods later on

Everyones 2p is welcome

Cheers
Mike

Good call, cheaper consumables is always a valid consideration when choosing a track car.

Reportedly, the older Civics handle better than the DC5 too, but I'd leave someone with experience of both to chime in on that one...

Sorry are you saying you will sell your DC5 and have a civic and daily driver?
I got a little confused reading it :((

Sorry, im getting a daily regardless

As for dc2s i have looked at them it would make sense being a b18 and light weight already but i really love the shape of the civics

Go for a B16a powered CRX, great on the track, cheap parts and economical. Probably pick one up for £1500 now

It had crossed my mind along with an ef9. Theres a b20 ef9 on pistonheads that looks and probably goes well

From going from a ek4, to a ek9 then to a dc5, the dc5 is the worst handling out of all the 3.

Honestly? Aint drove any civics but the dc5 is really good handling, inspires confidence on spirited drives. I look forward to driving a civic then

If i were you i would keep an eye out for a b18 eg. Theres been a few nice eg`s for sale on here im sure if you hunted you could get a nice one with some cash left over from the dc5.

To be honest any civic with a b18 in would be awesome. Theres a couple of b18 eg's on pistonheads at the mo £2.5k. That would be a lot of cash left over from the dc5 :)

Crx's are ridiculously cheap now, £1500 would get you a descentish one, as £2k would get you a a good example.. They are very good for track cars even as daily drives but space can be an issue at times, which is where I would be looking towards an EF civic..

I think EK4 is your best option. Reasons being it is cheaper than the rest, parts are more available than the others that have already been mentioned. If you have ever been to track days accidents happen so it makes more sense to get a car you can pick up panel's for cheap out of any scrap yard.

Good luck on what ever you choose and have fun with it.

exactly and if you feel the need to change anything the money will be there!

Best of luck anyway! Look forward to seeing what you get in the end :naughty:

If it was me I'd get a DC2, I also prefer the EK/EG shape but you'll have to spend money on whichever other car you buy to get it to standard DC2 level and the amount of spare parts about for DC2 is high with very little rust on them (unlike CRX's etc.). Plus, think about insurance costs on modified cars vs. a standard DC2.

I now own a DC5 lowered on some **** springs with the Camber setup (which is getting changed currently -2.2 on the rear :/ and probably stick some standard springs back on it). Had it on Cadwell Park just after a week of owning it and I had drove the EK9 round there a few times to compare.

The EK9 i feel was more entertaining to drive with having to drive it on the limit, and I think I prefer the B-Series more to the K-series, B-Series likes to be rev'd more imo
EK9 feels more involved in terms of driving. The DC5 certainly isn't numb by all means and is still a hoot to drive.

BUT.......

The DC5 tbh had way more grip through the bends and was effortlessly faster around Cadwell, I didn't push the car near as much as I would push my EK9 and the DC5 was still quicker by a fair bit. Especially through Hall bends, the EK9 used to understeer a bit. The DC5 there was simply none of that.
Going into Park before braking the DC5 was doing just shy of 120mph where as the EK9 would just be hitting 100mph iirc.

DC5 is definately more daily friendly, and seems to get alot more attention than my EK9 ever did.

Only issue with the DC5 i have is that its an expensive car to be chucking around tracks like I did my EK9.

Thanks for the opinions lads. Im leaning towards ek4, there are some nice examples on here. Dc2 is in the equation now though. Ukdm Dc2's tend to have over 100k on them. Would this be an issue?

Anyone want a dc5? :)

Yeah civics definitely more fun to throw about, had my dc5 for 3 weeks and sold it for another 9 lol. I'd be looking for a dc2 though mate as they are going for silly money just now. Whatever you go for, b18 civic/crx/dc2 you'll have good fun with it :D

High mileage wont be an issue as long as it has been looked after, my Dc2 was nearly on 140k but pulled better than cars with half the mileage.

If you could find a Civic with a B18 in it you would be onto a winner!

For a track car my money is with the EG6.. although not chap you can prob get a uk VTI EG civic for udner £2000 and that'll still have the b16a..
