hi guys, just brought a ek3 with the engine light on, it flashes up as cel code 54 which is the crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor.

abit of internet searching says its behind the crank pully.

my question is, is it massivly important to change it as it doesnt seem to effect the cars drivabilty or "performance", WTF does it actualy do.

and do i have to take the crank off to access it or could i get a spanner in there.

thanks

Ever have issues starting the car sometimes?
Not sure if its the same but on one of my previous cars I had a crankshaft position sensor fail and car would intermittently fail to start

Na buddy its different. i belive it messures pulces to adjust the timing. im not 100% sure. i sell car parts for a living and iv never heard/sold one yet lol

Which is what a position sensor would do?

No you dont/shouldnt have to mate.

First thing I would do it check its still connected/in tact (no damage/shorts to the wire/connector)

Edit; Just re-looking over it, crank pulley(s) off, possibly the oil pump housing - never done one myself though

Cheers
