crank/bearing related question..

[b16 mini]

bit unsure here,
got a b16 a2 sitting on my garage floor, getting it ready to put in the mini, (doing cam belt water pump etc)
any way i noticed that there seemed to be a bit of end float on the crank(side to side movement),
is this normal?
i striped the mains and thrust washers to inspect, there was i would say some wear but not loads, it has me wondering if its had a re build and has incorrect sized thrust washers,
do i have a problem or is it normal?

A couple i have looked at have had a little end float. Seemed to me to be too much to me but they didnt have any faults. It was just something i stumbled across while doing unrelated jobs on b16's and b18's. I will check the manual for the figure tomorrow.

i would try and get better pics but i have never seen a bad thrust washer so i would not know what one looks like, even when on old old old motors with spun bearings the thrust washers always "appeared" fine, at least to my eye's lol...

the other b16a i have also has a little float, but may be not as much.

they were with my mobile(, i'l try to take some better ones with a real camera in a better light,
i know what you mean, thrust washers are an a** hole lol

only a small area on each one has a shiny slight worn bit.

are big end and main bolts stretch bolts or not?
can they be re used, if so what is the torque wrench setting,

use a magnetic DBi stand and DBi, end play when new/servicable is 4-14thou and service limit is 18thou.

on stock bolts 18ft-lb then 56. Not strech bolts.

...just to note the thrusts only come in one size

is it the same for big ends and mains then?, torque to 18, then re torque to 56, or do you mean torque big ends to 18 and mains to 56?
i'm thinking at a guess it has more than 18 thou(
i'l replace the thrust washers and borrow a stand and gauge and see whats what, where can i purchase thrust washers, honda dealerships only?
or engine building/machine shops?

torque the rod bolts 18lb-ft then 56lb-ft, get thrusts from honda dealers

yes they have the same 2stage torque settings, ,make sure you do them in sequence.
