Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site, own an civic 97 EJ9.

The stock suspension performance is suck, too soft, too much body roll.

I'm looking for a new setup, I want it to be reliable,
perform and ride stiffer than the stock yet smooth enough for daily street drive, and be able to lower the car around 50mm.
With stock suspension I don't feel safe and stable when i drive fast in corners,
I believe it's because their too soft and it gets too much body roll, I want to get rid of that.
I'm gonna drive em' in streets only (the streets here are bad) and daily use only, don't have any tracks here.

Now the problem is that I live in israel, and can't find much in local stores,
and if i'll buy online i'll have to pay huge taxes and get plenty of documents to actually be able to get the item.
That's the way it works here.

That means I have to choose only from those setups below,
which I can buy in local stores:

vmaxx- Cheap soft garbage.
mad sport- same.
koni yellows- we have only 2 years warranty, I heard it leaks a lot, got no springs to combine them with.
kw- think they're perfect but too expensive.

And options I left with:
Tein basics coilovers- Can't find much about the tein's, heard they pretty soft and comfortable but don't know about their handling in corners.
Can I lower the car about 50mm with them?

D2 RS coilovers- I did a search and seems people who have/ had them say they good, last long and reliable, and people who doesn't had any experiance with them say they're ****.
This is stupid.

Is there any chance that D2 is better?

Any opinions are welcomed.
Thanks.

My brother had Tein basics - doesnt take you too low, dont think they're too firm.

Look into MeisterR coilovers, I had a set and couldnt fault them. Will take you as low as you please and the car handles well with them on

Only ever heard bad reviews if D2's and ran tein super streets for 2 years never liked them way to crashy, could never get them set right. Higher range teins are supposed to be prity good though.

Moved onto meister R's. Very well priced and haven't seen a bad review yet.

From a friends experience I would recommend Meister R's. For the features, quality and price. The dual perch design is a great system too.

I have Tein HA's which I personally rate highly although I have heard mixed reviews about lower end tein's.

im using Tein Control Master Type Flex on my EJ9 at the moment,
I found it really good.
Better than my Tein Super Street that i had before on my 200sx

Highly recommanded :nice::))

Thank's for the comments guys!

I wrote the reasons why I can't buy any other coilovers except those I mentioned before.
That means I can't buy the meister R's.

b2theenneh,
No, I don't have anti roll bars.
What do you suggest?
I think coilovers would be much more effective than stock suspension with anti roll bars.

Tein type flex would be too expensive considering the basic's are cost around 1550$ here in Israel.

So I guess i'll go with the Tein basic's, don't have much of a choice.
Israel sucks!!!!

also got these on my ej9 good handling & quite comfortable. they also lower the car alot as they're dual perch but still remain the damper travel as normal.

would also recommend bc & meister R coilovers too!

Stay away from D2 for sure! You can order on line stuff from the UK for example. Check Meister R or BC if you don't want to spend a lot.

Why not try Meister R?

He says he lives in isreal so has to pay huge amount of tax! Lol

I'd go for d2s as ive had cheaper option tein before and it just sucks... Terrible drive, not as comfy as i thought it would be

Ive had D2 rs (new variant model) on my ek9 for 1.5 years now driving it daily, Never had a problem. They are not the best but imo they are easily in similar league as bc & meister r. (my last civic had meister r's)

I have read bad reviews on them as alot of people have but i can only go off my own personal experience. Apparently it was the older models that had a lot of problems

Im pretty sure there is a user on here who has used them several times on the nurburgring and also had no problems.

Iirc buddyclub uk stock them for approx £450 wich is more than fair IMO.

Maybe they weren't Tein basic's?
I heard the basic's are quite soft, and the higher grade Tein are stiffer and maybe too stiff.

And it's not only about tax,
worst than that is all the different documents I should provide in order to get the package.
Including a document from the official local honda garage which approves me to use the coilovers,
That's never gonna happen since car tuning and modification are illegal in Israel!
Yeah, so I can't import them by myself, and can only buy em' from a local store.

Ellis,
It's great to hear you have them!
I would like to hear more about them.

They are damping adjustable, how stiff do you setup yours?
How do they ride? are they pretty comfort for daily drive?
How good are they handle in corners? Do you feel much body roll?
Do you see any wear signs? rust? knocking sounds?

Any information would be very useful,
since there are not so many reviews about them
and most people shoot "crap" in the air without even drive them.
Thanks.

So how the tuner companies get teins in stock? You could try and get friendly with someone who works in Honda and get them to approve of your coilies. Youl be able to get parts cheaper aswell :)

have run d2's on my b18'd ek4. they where brand new. very poor on anti-corrosion coatings and i do not rate the damping. managed to feel like it was struggling to control the movement of the wheel. almost like the car was running huge wheels and the damping was unable to contain the movement resulting in mid corner bumps causing the car to lose grip very suddenly. i guess you get what you pay for at that price level but i don't rate them for anything more than the adjustable ride height

i have run KW variant 1's (ride height adjustable only) on my fiesta zetec-s and ST and they where much better. very stiff at low speeds but they where absolutely supreme on the move

if you can save for a set of KW variant 3's they really are awesome. got them on my dads Z4M coupe and you can't really ask for much more without going for a full race setup

I guess they are more experienced and have more options as a store than I have.

I don't know what to say mate,
some people love them and some don't,
I guess it also depends on what you compare them to, if you compare them to stock or KW..

KW variant 1 costs here 2200$, it's too expensive for me.
Variant 3 would be even more expensive from that,
and honestly, I think it'll be too much for a daily civic.

Try Bilsteins pm joe Thompson on here he can get you a custom set of Bilstein coilovers with springs for under £1000!!!!! He did for me and they out perform any of the mentioned!
