Hi i am new to the whole honda/civic world, just thought i would register on this forum and start on build thread for my civic cup car which i am planning to race next year.

I bought the car from SW Motorsports in Leyland. It was previously used by Street Racers in Ireland in the civic cup over there.

I decided that i was going to 'clean the car up' as it was not in the best condition by this i meant going over it re spraying the interior and the cage and making sure everything was ok.

The spec includes;

- B16 A2 engine
- Brand new BC coilovers
- Hardrace camber arms front and rear
- New callipers and discs (front)
- Tegiwa Induction Kit
- Header and full exhaust system
- uprated clutch
- spoon plated LSD
- bolt in OMP cage (extended by Shaun at SW Motorsports in Leyland, Lancashire)
- Sparco Revv Bucket seat
- Buddy Club short shifter
- Full fire extinguisher kit and kill switch

and probably more that i havent listed.

As i started to remove different parts of the interior it was quite evident that the car had just been quickly kitted out and was not done very well, all the inner doors had been cut out but sharp edges were left, along with the bonnet the boot and the inner rear quarters. random wires and cables all over the place, the flooring still had all the sound deadening on (which was a nightmare to remove!) random bolts had been used to attach the frame that the seat bolted to. The inside was quite honestly a tip and i didnt think that it was in any condition to be a 'race car'. So, I decided it was time to strip the whole lot which would allow me to get a good job when spraying the interior.

Here are a few pics of the car when i got it and the progress made so far, I will update the thread as i go along with any upgrades and additions i do. Lets just hope i can get the wiring back to how it should be and the car actually starts...i might need someone on here who has the knowledge to advise me how to do this lol! :please:

Feel free to comment.

Thanks, Dave.

Time to start stripping the interior out came the seats, subframe harnesses, fixing eyes for the harnesses, and then all of the horrible bitumen on the floor of the car!....

Next was the dash, the previous owner again had cut all of the dash and it looked a bit of a mess so i decided this was coming out and i have bought a new one to replace it ...

Cheers mate, i did a 1.8 GTI golf up years ago and had my build thread on a forum there everyone seemed very knowledgeable and helpful. Hopefully this forum is the same :)

Dave.

My mate sold that car as a road going VTI to streetracer

Good build thread I will look forward to seeing the progress on the car, I have been on track with this car here in N.Ireland but it was only really used for testing and track days so the drivers didn't use it to its full potential

Its a pity that a lot of the work on the car was a bit of a hack job but hopefully you got it at the right money and its good to see that you are fixing that and building it into a worthy race car

Great build you got there mate!! Want to fully stripped mine as well

Hi mate, always find things out when making build threads on forums :) do you know if the car was competitive?

If you have any information or history about the car that would be great

I got the car at a good price and with the plans I have, hopefully it should be good! that's if I can wire it back up! :/ lol

Yesterday when I stripped the whole dash and interior I noticed thre was some wiring running from one side of the car to the other, on further inspection I noticed this went to the side repeaters and to the plugs that went into the side of the doors (possible for the electric windows, central locking etc)......As the plugs were no longer in use I decided to cut back all the wiring to make it all neater all the way back to the plugs which connect into the fuse box but keep the side repeaters as these will be needed. My question is as long as I have only cut the wires that went to the plugs in the doors, should everything else work? I presume it will, as the wiring was not a complete circuit anyway with the plugs not been connected into the doors?

Dave.

To be Honest it wasnt as quick lap time wise as the other cars but in saying that, the only other cars belonged to the owner of streetracer and his brother in law so they would have been better set up for their driving style. The car seemed just as healthy on the straights and it could have been the drivers that were behind the pace but it was only a few seconds iirc, the drivers of your car also only did one race at the most so they didnt have time to really learn how to drive it properly.

The owner of streetracer started the N.Ireland Civic cup but it never took off and there was only ever 3 cars competing so they had to run at the back of the saloon race. This is probably why the cars have been sold to SW motorsport

ye I was offered the black and yellow one which was meant to be a quick car, but the car itself was a bit of a mess, the inside was all rotten and the body work was not in good condition at all, it looked like it had been used heavily anyway! hopefully the engine will be fine and I can set the car up to how I like it :)

Dave.

The black civics did a full year and a bit of racing so you made the right choice with the blue car which has had very little track use

Your car should be just as quick if its setup right, I was doing the same lap times as the black cars in my EK4 track car with the standard b16a and BC coilovers

Ahh well it sounds like it could be promising then, I know the car did not have the camber arms on when I bought it. I have added these to the car now so that should make a difference. I'm also planning on fitting full poly bushes and solid engine mounts. I have never drove a Civic so it should be good fun ive heard they handle like they are on rails. How do you rate the BC suspension?
:ek9: :)

When they are set up and drove right there is not much that handle quite as well car wise esp FWD cars, the cage makes a big difference to rigidity and handling as will the polybushes etc

The BC coilovers are about as good as your gona get out of the mid range coilovers until you step up to the likes of Ohlins with separate reservoirs and heavier spring rates but that would be the price of the car which doesnt make sense imo.

that also sounds good. All the reviews I have read have been positive with the BC coilovers and the build quality is meant to be really good approved by german TUV, which apparently not a lot of 'mid range' suspension is. Not sure about the hardrace camber arms I have briefely lookd at a few reviews which state again mid range but decent for the buck..

I've for hardrace camber arms. I rate them myself, never had an issue and they come with proper bolts for tightening. Not the useless little Allen heads most have.

Good luck with the build mate. Could I ask you to take a few pictures of the cage? Esp the add ons from sw please? You'll love the way the ek drives!
