So my Dads DC2 is now dead, 5 days before our trip to the ring, my dad pulls into the petrol station, All's well, throws £40.00 of premium unleaded in, pulls out, first gear, second gear (doesn't rev past 6k) and it died with some loud metallic noises.

Tow's it out to our mechanics, Bores are full of water, after removing a plug, first thought was head gasket. The coolant path through the block has split into the bore, which explains the water.

Head stripped and it seems the valves got a bit too attracted to cylinder 1. Dad is sick, gutted especially with the ring on Wednesday!

So two valves dropped, bent? And we don't fully yet understand why, was a very healthy b18, didn't smoke and pulled very well, with quite a few tasty mods from Japan which would suggest it might not be a stock valve train. Engine has been very well maintained judging by previous history and the current ownership. Made it through about 6-7 trackdays without any hiccups. About 100k miles on the engine. So have had a few replies from members about engines they have available, appreciated and I'll get replys sorted soon! He would like a well built/cammed engine for it to be honest, but it's a fair chance at the same time.

Anyway, the damage.

Gutted for him mate, esp with the ring trip! If I was still selling my engine I'd of offered it but going to keep it ATM, With the head off etc is there any evidence of it not being standard? I have a set of standard itr pistons and rods out of my engine before I built it if there any use to him, hope there's no other hidden damage mate

Have a b16b head minus cams too.

Thats pretty shocking...even compared to my rod through the block.

feel sory for you mate. But at least it didnt let go in Germany :0
Dunx

Yikes! That's terrible!

As above at least it didn't happen on the ring or during travel.

such a shame mate, frustrating when you dont know the cause.

as above if you take anything away from it at least it happened over here

Nasty! obvious damage from the dropped valves, but the other combustion chambers, is there damage in the squish area of them? the bit right at the edge looks a bit suspicious in the piccies.

Bad luck Kippers Dad, really unlucky. Hope it all gets sorted and very suspicious indeed, something was not happy at all!

That's pretty normal when a valve goes,
Broken bits get blown back up the inlet port on compression in to the inlet manifold and sucked in to the other cylinders,

Have seen this sort of thing before happen for no obvious reason,

Gutting! however like others have said at least it happened now not midway to or around the ring!

Thats bad mate, did it slip a tooth on the belt or something or just drop a valve?
I know of a friend selling a B18C block with EK9 pistons if you need it.

Oh my god, look at those valves in the piston...Really feel for your dad.

Shite thats such a downer is it his daily?? that would be worst case scenario if it was **** happens tho good excuse for more POWER!!!!!!

ouch!! with the "fuel" we get over here i wouldnt be surprised if it had something to do with it. :-(

Ouch, never seen one quite like that. Maybe it's an opportunity to re sleeve and get some nice high comp pistons?

Kipp I think it's time you told your old man to get a k20a in there.was talking to him last week he thought it was the head gasket.?.this is very strange hope you'd found out the route cause of this.
