As above the engine is started up running fine, just on the road break in any comments/suggestions guys, just heard soo many ways that i'm as bit confused.

-I know you need to keep the engine going through the rev range, no constant engine speed.
-also letting the revs come down again themselves.
-no full throttle or hard accelerating.
-an oil change between 300-500miles
-not being to gentle on the engine so the rings dont get a chance to seal.

any input would be appreciate guys!

Plenty of engine braking, drive out some roads that have lots of hills, load the engine up going up a hill and then engine brake coming down the hill. I always change the oil and filter after first start up and again after 100 miles(stick with mineral oil for first 100-200 miles)

Have wondered this myself. Its actually quite difficult to find a full mineral oil, or so it is for me. Everything I find is always semi syn . I generally stick with 10w40 anyways. Is even semi syn a big nono?

how many miles do you have to run it in for another o change as i have just got my car back from a rebuild

100 miles then 500 , 1000 then use what oil I like . I get my oil filters from GSF same as honda purflux

If you found it elsewhere on the Internet.... then it has to be true...

the thing is so many people have diifrent ways and i just want to kno the best way without destroying the pistons and rings again

I have got 1400 miles on my new B16a2 I built.

This is how I run it in..... (and yes it has run in great, no oil loss, good compression/pulls well, sounds quiet etc etc.)

- TESCO's own cheap mineral oil 10w40 - yes TESCO! its only going to be in the engine for a short while, doesn't have to be great stuff.

- First start up, revved between 900-2000rpm until up to temp (whilst checking engine)

- I personally didn't drop oil out at this point

- Initial driving, under 3000rpm (up to about half throttle, don't to too easy) Lots of 20-40mph 3rd and 4th gear pulls/engine breaking.

- Oil/filter change at 100miles same Tesco 10w40 mineral oil.

- Raising the rpms up buy 500 every 100 miles
100-200mi - 3500
200-300mi - 4000
300-400mi - 4500
etc etc......didn't stick religiously to this.....did this all the way up to 8000rpm.

- Oil/filter change 500miles same oil again!

- Throughout, always allow good warm up time and don't be too gentle with it...by 100miles I was using 60% throttle to accelerate up to max revs. General mix of short bursts of acceleration and normal easy driving....Just maybe use the gears to slow down a bit more than you usually would....

- Did intend to change oil/filter at 900-1000miles with fully synthetic but I moved house and was a bit busy so I changed it this weekend at 1300miles lol

all seems good. There's no 'perfect way to run it in' just don't go spanking it when cold, or go too careful.
