Hi all,

I have a Spoon 421 Manifold, and its come to a point where i think some repolishing is needed to it.

Do i assume that one uses Metal Polish to bring it back out or is there some other methods or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks

Here's my Maxim Works header:

Took me about 20 hours of sanding, wet sanding, polishing, and a lot of cursing :))

Switch9 - That is an excellent result!

I'm in the process of cleaning my manifold i just bought, have tried sanding and autosol but taking hours.. so my mate is gonna dip it in a kerosine bath, i will post up when it has been done and polished up

A kerosine bath?? How does that work? :)

As I said, sanding takes really really annoyingly long...
But that depends on how "ugly" the header is. As you see in my pic, my Maxim was in pretty bad shape.

If anyone wants, I could post up a sort of "How To" ?

Could you please post up a "how to" on the processes . you made a serious job on that manifold

i did mine, i just made a band of sand paper (basically put ur sand paper onto some gaffa tape! and then just use it like a piece of material around each pipe back and forth) to make sanding it VERY easy! then work your way down the grades...... (obv depends how bad it is to start with an mine was horrific!) then finish it off with some fine grade wire wool and a quick polish, not very time consuming but great results :) (took me about 2 hours to do the upright visible section of a 4-1 only leaving the bit under the car scabby! )

Just basically a barrel filled with kerosine, my mate works for an engineering company and its at his work.

Got recommended to try it, but if this doesnt work then a "how to" guide would be appreciated as you've made a tidy job :nice:

Such brilliant job and result! Shame about the amount of effort though....Thanks for all the replies peeps! I managed to use the advice and got the manifold to its original shining glory-only after so many months-it's turned back into the same state!

Check out the last page of my "build thread"

I also managed to get similar results to switch 9 but admittedly not to the same extent.

I basically started off with 240 grit wet and dry and thoroughly worked by way up through to finer paper (240 > 320 > 400 > 500 > 600 > 800 > 1000 > 1200 > 1500). Finished off with some metal polish and a drill polishing wheel. Some of the other tools I used for the more awkward bits were Dremmel polishing attachments, brass coated wire brush and a steel wire brush.

Took absolutely ages and by the end of it I wish I had just heat wrapped the manifold to be honest.

Hope this helps

Get some decent heat wrap and cover it up. Plus reduce bay temps while your there. 2 birds 1 stone :nice:
