I have a B18C4 swap in my ek4 civic. The car ran great a few weeks ago, no problems. It's off the road so I booked it in for an MOT and went to get it from the garage where it is located. I turned the key and it fired up no problem. Then I turned it off. Got in the car in the garage and nothing. I pushed it out and when I turn the key the fuel pump primes and the bat and oil light are on the dash. When I turn the key they go off, but all I get is a click from the main relay.

Me and friend tested the batter by replacing it with the one in my daily and it made no difference, so the battery is fine. We jumped the starter motor and got the car running, no problems.

As soon as I turn it off, same problem.

So the car runs great, just can't get it started. I checked every fuse, they we're all fine.

My friend thinks the next step is the ignition switch, what do you recommend?

Yea I thought that, went through them all, they were all good. Also, the speedo gauge flickers to 20mph when I turn the key. Ignition switch?

As above check you've not got an earth missing.
Usually the gearbox to chassis leg earth that causes starter issues.

Definitely don't have any missing, he car ran great about a month ago, now this. Will take them all off and make are they are not corroded. Could it not be the ignition switch?

When you jumped the starter did you put power straight to the motor?
Or did you jump the small wire to activate the solenoid?

I used another battery, as mines in the boot. Gonna take all my esrths off and clean them up and try again.

If you were local I would fix it for you. ^^

You are not local sadly. Nw.

Thank you, you are too kind. So I have checked the ignition switch and that works fine. I cleaned all the earths and they all have good continuity now. Could it be the ecu? How can I test that?

I think it's your starter solenoid or the small wire that activates it, pull that small wire off and test the wire for power when the ign switch is in cranking position

So it's all sorted. I put a jumper cable from the the starter motor housing straight to the body and it started. So I bought a really thick cable and put it from the bolt on the starter motor to the gearbox straight to the suspension fixing. So happy it wasn't anything more serious.
