Will b16b head with a b18c type r block be a good engine? Will, any thing be bolt-on? What other things must be considered?

The b16b and B18c6 are basically the same head/block as the b16b is a destroked B18c6. I believe the cam specs are ever so slightly different as is the piston design, but everything is interchangeable.

I've just had my B16b rebuilt and stroked to 1800cc with a B18c6 Crank and rods but retaining the b16b pistons for higher compression (Plus head and block skim)

The difference is spot on with the extra torque making a huge difference and you dont need to rev the guts out of it to make it go anywhere. Definately a worth while mod in my opinion :nice:

just the usual maintenance things to consider, water pump, oil pump, timing belt/tensioner, camseal.

new gaskets and headbolts or headstuds and go...don't forget the 18C ecu.

Nice!! Were there any difficulties with the stroking? Any probs using CTR pistons? What about ECU? Are you using a custom or Stock B18C? I'm also thinking about this but its labour costly

Did you mean by "rebuilt and stroked to 1800cc", you still retained your b16b block and changed the internals so that it would be 1800cc?

which one is a cheaper approach?

a.) having it stroked to 1800cc?
b.) replacing the whole block with b18c5?

Thanks for the advice sir. :)

No problems with stroking it at all.

As for cost, Probably cheaper just swapping the block but as mine is a race car, I didnt want to take the risk of buying 2nd hand, plus I wanted to keep the b16b pistons for higher compression so stroked it instead with stock B18c6 crank and rods.
It is costly as the block has to be honed, plus all new geakets, seals, bearings, ARP rod bolts, piston rings, full bottom end balance, crank polish etc etc but at least i know its 100% strong and reliable which is what I need.

Still running the b16b ecu for now and its running it ok, although the b18 would be slightly more beneficial, but i'm going for a proper ECU once funds allow.

Having the b16b stroked to 1800cc was the 1st advise I got from a friend. But I was thinking that it would be less trouble and cheaper to just swap the block with b18c5.

What other things are to be considered when having the b16b stroked to 1800cc? You mentioned replacing gaskets, seals, bearings, ARP rod bolts, Piston rings, full bottom end balance, crank polish. Are these required when stroking it to 1800cc?

If for example I decided to swap the block with b18c5 and wanted to place in the b16b pistons. What other things will I need? Will this option be still be less trouble and cheaper?

Sorry for sounding too noobie sir KRIS. :)

any difference b18cR and b18c gsr crankshaft?

Good question. :)

^^^ Your not sounded too noobie at all mate. Its only because i've recently had this work done that I have a small idea of whats needed, still plenty to learn as always :nice:

I suppose the minimal you will need is to have the block honed to cater for the extra stroke, but in my eyes, while its apart its the right time to renew everything. I appreciate this isnt cheap but with everything balanced and the stronger rod bolts, it means the engine will be able to cope with slightly higher revs etc. I bought the crank 2nd hand so ideally it needed to be polished and balanced before going in and I wanted the bottom end to be strong so I didnt have to take it apart for a long while.

As for the b18c5, I'm not sure what engine that is over here (B18c4 MB6?) but i'm sure the b16b crank and rods are slightly stronger and lighter, although I could be wrong. Its possible you could do that and just re-fit the b16b pistons and new rings and go from there. Or buy a B18c6 and sell the b16b......probably the cheapest option of all?

:nice:

Nice info Kris! I guess if we go the expensive way like you did, then some further polishing to the head would do good. :) I think a lot of people here had the thought of stroking their motor and the costs you mentioned are very foundational. :nice:

But yeh you really need your ecu sorted. With high compression like that would need some retarding to the exhuast cam to avoid some serious detonation.

The guys have taken the car out with the det-cans (?) on and its running fine with no major detination at present, but yeah an ECU will be sorted soon.

Oh and the head had a mild port and polish while it was off aswell :nice:

Nice man! Thats what I would have done. Its going to be a strong 1.8! :nice:

can someone tel me if this is making sense...i wanna change the pistons in my B16A5 to the B16B pistons....i heard the compression will be higher and this will make a big difference??? is this so for real???....

Thats correct I did that in a B16A back in 2003, and I raised the compression and used some skunk 2 stage 1 camshafts, the car was 1 second faster in the 1/8 mile :nice:
