b16b bored and sleeved or b20 block

do darton mid sleeves come 85mm or do you buy them andand bore them to 85mm??

and whats the difference in using darton mid towards darton dry sleeve??

darton M.I.D sleeves are the best sleeves imo. They come in 81mm and 84mm but BOTH can be taken to 85mm safely! The 84mm sleeves are just the 81mm ones bored out from the factory. The sleeves are around £400 - £450 but to get them fitted by the best places you'd be looking at around £600+ for fitting.

Personally Id rather pay the extra as if not fitted properly they have been known to sink!!!

The sleeves can apparently hold upto 1000bhp

In your case I dont think you need sleeves. If your aiming for around 250 - 260bhp you can do it with your standard 81mm bores ;)

Yea you dont even have to sleeve it to make more power from the B16B. I know someone who is running Buddyclub Spec iv cams with springs and retainers and a B18 bottom end and he is running 230bhp on a crome ecu. now if you pushed that spec a bit with a few more mids, 2.5" exhaust, velocity stack, etc and hondata S300 tune you could hit 250bhp no probs!!

So just get some Buddyclub spec iv cams and a B18 crank and rods and keep your B16B pistons in and tune it and you will make good power and about 150lb ft torque. That way you can still rev the tits out of it and its reliable if tuned well! This is runnin really high compression mind!

personally Id go for skunk2 pro stage 2 camshafts or if its a mad build with 12.5:1 or over compression then Id run skunk2 pro 3 camshafts ;)

pro 3s are AWESOME!!!!!!!

You don't need aftermarket cams.. Mine mine 249 odd bhp with standard OEM parts (Minus ECU, and verniers). Changing to aftermarket parts just increase's the variables, for something, in time to go wrong.

got quote of 1000 euro for bore and sleevin, thats with sleeves supplied obviously...

i dont want to run mad high compresion cause i'd have to map the high to beter fuel, dont think 95ron is gud on high comp e.g 12:5 etc etc

Thats a decent quote mate. May I ask with what sleeves though?

Your certainly right about running that c/r on 95 ron.

vpower would be fine on 12.5:1. I wouldnt go any higher than 13.0:1 with vpower. Any higher then you'd want race fuel.

He was talking about running 12.5 c/r on ron 95, not Vpower (ron 98/99 (I think he plans on using ron 95 as said in his previous post)).

yea i wouldn be going into the 12: c/p range , cause not alot of vpower available in my area, only usuall 95 ron muck:) so tink i'll go 11:5 or so and get a gud mapping

surely Shell petrol stations are everywhere

oh there is shell stations lad, but not no where near me anyway thats a fact.......its all topaz and texaco near me..

oh ok mate fair enough :) never heard of topaz lol yeah 11.5:1 will be fine on 95ron aslong as you take it to a good tuner. Youd could proberly get away with 12.0:1

would there be much differnece in power between 11:5 and 12:0??

not alot really mate but higher compression is better for big camshafts which make more power. skunk2 pro stage 2s would would well with 12.0:1 ;)

sorry i dont have any pics but a couple of friends had seriusly worn lobes maybe it could be from bad install afterall but why only on s2 cams and not for example with toda's or jun?

ive never heard of that problem. Ive only ever heard of one case of skunk2 camshafts snapping. Ive heard of alot more makes of camshafts snapping but never wear on the lobes.

Maybe he ran the engine VERY low on oil as once the engine is running it creates a film around all the metal components so they never really touch each other!

I'll second what abunai888 said, there are also a few other members who have had similar experiences with the b-series cams they make. Skunk2 has had many, many problems with extremely worn lobes on their new K-series camshafts too from what I've read and seen on K20a.org.

I was recommended Piper Cams which are made in the UK, bit more expensive but the quality is there and they have many, many years of excellent service andfeedback in motorsport.
