Hi there folks,

what are the steps to make a B16A2 motor become into a B18C5? I am just curious. I mean what are the differences besides the 1.6 and 1.8 displacement?

Can these parts be bought from shops and dealers?

thanks a lot in advance.

cheers!

Not possible; the B18c5 has a different head, different block, different intake manifold, different exhaust manifold, different tb, different airbox.

Actually JT it is very possible, you are far from correct on this one mate ;)

The b16a and b18c5 (USDM Type R) use the exact same cylinder head.

Now what you need to start is a 1.8 block from a GSR or B18c5, then some Type R cams from a B18c5 or B16b with matching valvetrain, a type R intake manifold and thats about it for the most part. Obviously you will need some sort of tuning as well. Now this ITR engine does have some trick things done to it that are hard to recreate like the futher balanced crank and the moly coated pistons etc... as well as minor porting of the head.

BUT it would be better if you built it bigger and with better parts, the b18c5 is NOT the holy grail some think it is, why not do this:

-2.0 block with high compression pistons
-skunk2 tuner1 cams
-skunk2 pro intake manifold

Because in Vancouver, nobody is really qualified to tune such a setup, and he would have to drive (or tow!) all the way into WA state to get it tuned.

Other than that, the cost of having a 2.0L gets expensive when you factor in the little bits such as a proper long tube header (+$900 - $1200), fuel system (+$2-300) and the previously mentioned tuning ($300+) - Arguably these costs are necessary even for a good 18C5, but they would not be entirely necessary - though for a 2.0L, I would highly suggest them.
