Buck & Hickman Search: helicoil

should be able to find what your looking for on here.

Buck and Hickman are a supplier to lots of race teams, including Aston Martin Racing when i worked for them a few years back, If its good enough for a DBR9 GT1 car its probably good enough.

:nice:

HELICOIL KIT METRIC M12 X 1.25 - Buck & Hickman

Be careful when tapping the initial thread. 1.25 pitch is fine as it is the installation thread can pull easily if not tapped straight or properly.

Might be an idea to loctite (thread lock) the helicoil in.

I know the kit is a bit steep but itll give you everything you need to fit it right.

best of luck as i know the pain of a fuc*ed thread that you cant get a nut on the back of.

Another thing you may want to try is a "Trap nut" basically a floating nut in a cage that you rivet on to the bodywork. look into that if you dont fancy £90 on a helicoil kit

Life saver dude !

and fricking £85 for the kit jesus haha....might just get that, this is the only part that is holding up my car getting MOT'd now so might just get it

what is this "trap nut" is it a bodge sort of thing ? dont really understand from your description haha

A & R Sheldon Mail Order Tools

found these two aswell, ones the same price and the others alot cheaper but not sure whats the difference between them on that site ? :S haha

Sorry dude I cant see your link, just tells me I have a cookies problem.....which i dont lol

I think as long as you have the correct size drill and tap and the helicoil itself with the tool to fit it thats all you need. It may just be the helicoils themselves that they are selling separately for people who have all the tools and that may be why its cheaper.

As for a "Trap Nut" or "Floating Nut" its one of these:

https://id3513.securedata.net/raceworkscatalog.net/merchantmanager/images/uploads/fmNoseNutPlate.jpg

Its basically a nut in a floating cage that you then rivet to the back of the panel and you have a fully working trapped nut, like a weld nut but floating and without the weld.

you need some access to the back of the panel in some fashion, not as much as you'd need for a regular nut. Just enough to hold it in place until you rivet it to the back of the panel. Google "Trap Nut" for pics and stuff.

There is also "Riv Nuts" but i wouldnt use them to mount suspension, they are more for brackets and such rather than anything that would take a large load.

Best of luck with it Bud
