Another oil use question!!

Right had a good read through previous threads but still a bit lost.

So cars going through quite a bit of oil I'd guess about a litre in about 600 miles I've just topped it up and reset my trip to try and measure it properly, regardless of that it seems like too much?

it's a b16b block and head with b18c crank and rods it had new piston rings on the rebuild by the previous owner done in May don't have a mileage for it but says it was run in then remapped.

There's a "tiny puff" of black smoke on vtec, none on the over run. and to be fair it's my second car so have been thrashing it most places in the last two months. From what I've read it's either stem seals or rings/bore? Can anyone narrow it down?

Is the bottom of the engine dry? Sounds like valve stem seals

Probably being really thick here ha but what do you mean by dry? ha. That's what I'm hoping there's no receipt for them in the rebuild history so its possible the head wasn't touched. is the only way to check/test them visually??

Have you done a compression or leak down test?

Not yet bought a compression tester today so will do it tomorrow and stick results up.

Like is there any oil leaking from the crank seal or sump gasket?

Best thing is to have it compression and Leak Down Test First

Finally got round to compression testing it, not to clued up on cylinder order so left to right the results were 249 249 245 240, didn't bother with a wet test, did notice some oil on the block below the vtec solenoid which I thought I had spilt but it maybe a leak. Spark plugs were well used and white.

Compression checks out anyway. What oil are you putting in it?

5w 30 semi synthetic.

That could be the cam seal behind the vtec solenoid leaking always happens at some point, if not the vtec solenoid seal, both easy repairs. Worse case the oil maybe somehow seeping through the HG as the oil return is right there too but would see it more on the front of the block to where the engine code is. Which would explain where some of the oil use age is going, that & high revs. Also I'd use 10w 40 semi-synthetic oil abit thicker again.

I have some smoke after overrun I've been told so many different things, the car was run with 5.7L of oil prior to me buying it, anyone help? It's not using much tbh
