Can any of u guys help me? My ctr wont go! First of all it failed Its NCT or MOT or watever it is in your own country. It failed on emissions there was too much fuel in the exhaust fumes so ive been switching ecus from the aftermarket mugen ecu to the standard regularly for its retest and just messing around comparing da diffrennce in performance between them. Could this be the problem?
The other day i was drivng home from work and i noticed the vtech was louder than usual i looked at the clock and noticed the kms, dat its 300 kms over its service. I went home and checked the oil and noticed it was extremly low!:nerv: However no engine light or oil light came on. I topped it up with oil and went for a drive and before vtech it ran perfect when the vtech cut in it was like the engine was struggling no power whatsoever. I drove it for couple days keeping it out of vtech and it was grand. I then serviced it and took it for a spin pushed it up into vtech and again no power then its just stalled. now it just starts and cuts out straight away. My friend thinks distributor. this ever happen to any of ye folks or any ideas?

The sooner i get her going the better cos am driving a shitty 1.4 306 which is so slow! Dead as a maggot ha!

Thanks RVM for all da info and help!:woot:
Yep mine is a race base version il post some pics soon!

Its 'VTEC' not 'VTECH'

And how could you man - you need to check your oil - engine revs very high and honda's are well known to use oil! your B16b = abused :(

Anyway - i hope it aint too serious and that you get it back on the road - just take care of it - honda engines are literally indestructable but only if serviced regular and correct checks are done often - especially oil!

errr your engine is not broken, and you certainly would not be the first to break one.

Check to see if oil is been pumped up to the head? Was your engine warning light on? could be faulty exhaust gas sensor why your car is running lean my mate had that problem with his coupe civic replaced sensor and it passed nct. pull out your plugs one by one and see are they all generating spark I would also check your fuel filter could be very dirty restricting fuel. have you a after market air intake or standard air box? check air filter.

Arite m8.. Soz to hear about your problems, however this is the main reason for this site - to share eachothers opinions and ideas to solve problems :nice:

First of all m8 I would check the conections / broken wires on your Vtec solanoid - if your Vtec solanoid is not activating the high lift cam profile you will definently notice a difference in power - As the ECU is mapped on RPM's it will be pumping all the fuel you require to run the high lift cam however you do not have sufficient air in and exhaust gas out valves to allow this..

Secondly Vtech6000 has some very good pointers to check - I would also check the exuast gas sensor - air flow meter..

If you are getting quite worried about the problem I would recomend for peace of mind that you pop down to ur local garage and have a compression test done - it will only take 10-15 mins and if there is any " serious " damage / problems this would def show it..

It sounds more electronic related to me tho m8 - also this may sound stupid but have you checked the ECU code to def make sure its B16b - Ive heard horror stories of Jap Imports that have been brung into the country with different Non Vtec ECU's - This is due to while they are in japan they may be runnin APEXI FC - MOTEC - CHROME etc etc - Some times before they are auctioned all these " performance " parts are removed and replaced with another ECU - the problem is the guy has probarly sold his B16b ECU earlier on and now slapping in any old shite just to get it on the boat !!! Im not saying this is the case, just stories ive heard.

Summary is m8 - few checks on Vtec solanoid - MAF sensor - Ex Gas Sensor and Compression Test..

Hope this has helped - :nice:

Cheers .. Andy

no engine lights came on. yep i took rocker cover off looks ok. where is da exhaust gas sensor located? ive a mugen 4 branch. thanks for da info lads. sweet lukin Ride andy

Have A look around or near the cat on your car should be there

hmm now this is a funny one. can u tell us if the car splutters throught v-tec or just has no power. i had a problem like this it turned out to be one ****ed spark plug it run fine just had no power in v-tec. now there is 3 things that make v-tec work and that is engine temp, engine speed and oil pressure. you will always have engine speed so that only leaves 2 things to try temp sensor and make sure rite oil level and grade i put 5w-30w in mine

for ireland and such honda recommends 10 w 40 semi sentic oil.... i ran some race grade crap in mine and just burnt it out... ran 10w40 and didnt burn a drop.. in our colder climate... 10w40 magnetic (castrol) i find the best... always run oem spec... no trouble... esp same with spark plugs!!!

ye it is 10w40 that hond recomend. i use the mobil 1 my car never burns a drop but that stuff is £45 for 5L but i get it free out my work. there is a boy i know he is a top mechanic for honda and he wouldnt put anythin els but 5w30 and i have to say my car does run alot smoother

It wont go at all now. Theres spark and fuel and seems to be compression

sounds like it could be the dizzy cap these engines are bad for them. altho u still get a spark it jumps and sparks at the wrong time witch aint any good. and change the rotor arm 2 inside the dizzy cap

I rang honda iumek for a new dizzy cap and they told me if i have spark it should be ok that this isnt a problem with b16b only b16a.

when the car was running were there any clattering noises comming from the engine. the same happened to my mums honda and the cover from the spark plug fell into the cylinders .

I got it sorted Lads!!! awh so sweet ta hear da sweet sound of vtec again aftar four monyhs! :drive: turns out it was the distributor even tho there was a good spark! brought it to jon stone in castlecomer. really knows his hondas :nice:
