Hi everyone - for those who dont know me, I'm Kris from R-Motion who organises the series!

For anyone interested in joining the series, there is lts of information on the website (Honda VTEC Challenge Race Series) and also on the forum where most of the chat goes on (Vtec Challenge Forum • Index page).

2012 Class Structure

The classes last year were left quite open - it was a new series and we didnt know what kind of cars we would attract. We have streamlined the classes for this year to make it more competative for standardish cars to compete so essentially an S2000 would be in production class (against DC2s, EP3s, DC5s etc) so would be very competative.

For the more extreme cars (forged engines and engine swapped cars, we have a tuner class)

If you need any more info on costs or what it takes to prep a car, just fire away. In the mean time here are the details of the new classes for 2012:

Classes will be...........Production 1600 , Production, Tuner and Super Tuner (4 simple classes)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Production 1600 - Cars with engine of same series and capacity as that originaly fitted to that model/shape of car up to 1599cc. Engine modifications (e.g. cams, ECU) are free but

a) pistons must be a Honda production cast piston
b) Engines must run a single plenum throttle body (i.e. no individual throttle bodies

Production - cars with engine of same series & capacity as that originally fitted to that model/shape of car .from 1599cc upto 2300cc. Engine modifications (e.g. cams, ECU) are free but

a) pistons must be a Honda production cast piston
b) Engines must run a single plenum throttle body (i.e. no individual throttle bodies)

There is No minimum weight for '1600' and' production' class

Tuner - Modified or engine swapped cars up to 1980cc

Tuner Class is for all cars where the engine is not as that originally fitted to that model/shape of car e.g. engine swapped cars and for cars that do not meet the regulations of Production class upto to a maximum capacity of 1980cc,

Engine modifications are free and No minimum weight

Super Tuner - Modified or engine swapped cars over 1981cc

Super Tuner is for all cars where the engine is not as that originally fitted to that model/shape of car e.g. engine swapped cars and for cars that do not meet the regulations of Production class from 1981cc - 3400cc or which exceeds the max capacity of Tuner Class (up to 1980cc) so all engines over 2L capacity.

Minimum weight 1000kgs

All engine modifications are free.

“VTEC Challenge” is also pleased to announce that “HEL” brake lines are returning as a series sponsor for the 2012 season, and with them they are bringing a whole host of offers to everyone who race’s in the VTC.

“HEL” will be offering all confirmed competitors a huge saving off the retail cost of any bespoke brake line system. Although the specifications and prices will vary accordingly from car to car due to the custom nature of the work, each driver will benefit hugely from the savings.

In addition to this, anything else available from “HEL’s” extensive catalogue such as oil coolers, fuel hose, oil hose, silicone hose will be offered with up to 40% off the RRP's as well. Great savings for anyone finishing off their race car build or upgrading for the 2012 season.

Last but not least, for those of you venturing out on track next year, HEL are also generously supplying one lucky driver from each round with a £100 voucher that can be spent on any product stocked by them.

We look forward to a successful campaign during 2012, and continuing our relationship with Ben and everyone at HEL.

Question time!

What are the compulsory safety devices for this class? Cut off Switch? Lexan Windows? Extinguisher? Cage? If so what ratings MSA / FIA ??

And what would you imagine the rough cost would be to enter into a race?

Cheers! :nice:

In the process of sorting mine, the safety items are the same for all classes.

FIA Approved (approx costs):

Lifeline extinguisher 4ltr plumbed £325.
Masterswitch £25.
Rain light £113.
Rain light switch £59.
Solid state battery isolator £229.
Cage £900-1500.
Seat £500 (no date requirement)
Harness £100 (in date)
Helmet £300 (correct stamps)
Suit £300
Boots £100
Balaclava £50
Nomex underwear £150.
Gloves £80 (FIA approval was not required last year I believe)

Medical £60-100
MSA Go-Racing pack £60
ARDS Test £250.
Race license, (National B) £56 (2012 cost)
Vtec Challenge registration £105
BARC registration £120
Race weekend x 1 £300

Other items:

Camping gear.
Rollcage padding.
Door card material.
Fuel.
Tyres A048 (6-8 tyres maybe).
Welding of drivers seat.

Obviously some items will be more or less, depending on what gear you choose, gives an idea, sure Kris can add :nice:

To answer on Kris's behalf...

all in the blue book, although it's a pain to try and find what you're looking for.
http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentCategoryView.asp?category=609

MSA compliant cage, cut-off, 2.25l (min) plumbed in extinguisher, normal glass windows are fine but lexan/perspex is allowed (except windscreen), msa approved fireproof hemet, FIA seats, FIA harnesses, FIA suit and I think gloves.

Only the harnesses are a dated item. Suit, helmet, seats etc just need to be a current accepted standard (eg Snell 2005 for helmet, FIA8856-2000 for suits etc).

Sorry for the slow reply, but Chris and James have pretty much covered everything by the looks of it.

Chris's list is pretty complete, but there are cheaper options if your on a budget i.e mechanical extinguisher and cut-off etc ( and I currently borrow a suit and helmet and dont wear race underwear, balaclava etc) I'm a proper budgter racer lol

Unfortunately, the first year is always expensive because you have your ARDS/Race Licence to sort and usualy a car to build which all comes at a cost. However, once out on track you will realise it was all worth it!!

If theres anything we can do to help or any questions you need answering just get on the forum and ask away!!!

There may be a couple of DC2 Race cars coming up for Grabs before the season starts if you dont want to build your own, and i'm sure a Part-X is a possibilty :D
