a mate brought me his 52 plate Civic Type R to try and sort out for him but I am somewhat at a loss.

- Engine will start but only runs on 3 cylinders
- Injector #2 is not firing after the first couple of cranking seconds
- Engine will run for about 10 seconds and then cuts out
- Seems like the cutout is ECU commanded as the time of running is constant
- Hot wired cylinder 2 into another injector ( I know not a good thing to do) and engine ran on 4 cylinders very well but still cutout after about 10 seconds.
- Had a good look around and no obvious faults are found.
- No check engine light is illuminated and no fault codes recorded.

Anybody got any ideas what is causing this ?

Thanks in advance
Kevin

check out the fuel pump as there is a plastic bracket that breaks stopping the pump from sitting in the bottom of the tank

they are prone to injectors going and also blowing the injector controller relay inside the the ecu

Hi guys
Thanks for the suggestions, I will have a poke around and see what I find.

with regards to the injector drivers failing would this make the ECU command an engine shut down ?

Kevin

just had the ecu back from a testing service and they found no fault with it.

the local Honda dealers have no clue as to the cause, they plugged it into their diagnostic kit and could not find any problems.

It does not matter if you run it at idle or keep the revs upto around 4000 rpm, after about 10 seconds the engine cuts out instantly.
Does not sound like fuel starvation, it is more of an instant cutout suggesting it is being commanded by the engine ecu

Any other suggestions any body ?

I did hear that it is now fixed with the new owner, how I do not know, sorry

Found the timing chain is slack so think it has stretched so gonna change that and the tensioner
