Which OIL recommended for the B16b

0w-20? are these oils ok for an engine that is 15years old ?
newer engines have different clearences than older ones ....

If you are trying to get every last bit of power out of it, then a 0w-20 will help and won't cause any immediate problems, but over time, using a 0w-20 will mean that the engine suffers from more wear as it's a bit thin.

I got an ek SiR b16a and need some oil. lookin through opie oils and this thread i cant find the perfect oil. some brands i havent heard of so not entirely sure i want to use there oil.

then i ready fully synthetic could be bad
then ?w-40 is to high

just confusing??

oilman help? lol

Hi

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

5w-40, 5w-40 oil, 5w40, 5w/40

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

Not sure where you heard those things about fully synthetic and SAE 40s being to thick, they're wrong, although you could also use a semi-synthetic and a 5w-30 or 10w-40.

Cheers

Tim

never knew there was oil just for vtec engine's i love this thread going to try find some now to go with my hamp filters :p

If I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 in my b16a for a while now, would it be ok to switch to a full synthetic? like amsoil? I get mixed opinions on this.

I was thinking of getting amsoil 5w30 or 0w30. Not to sure if I would really need or benefit from a 40 weight oil. It's not always hot where I live, and I don't really bring my car to the track either.

I'm currently using Fuchs Titan Pro S 10W50 in my stroked B16B, is this not recommended?

Haven't seen anyone in this thread running 10W50 yet....and most seem to recommend 10W30 or 5W40.... It was my local garage that deal with a lot of Honda's that recommended me this oil, when I also changed to Torco Racing Transmission Fluid because of my plated diff.

From having read a few of the posts, and living in the UK, I'm thinking I should be using something more along the lines of 0W40, or 5W40?!

I'd go for a 5w-40 over the 10w-50. Pretty much the only Hondas that need anything thicker than a 5w-40 or 10w-40 are heavily modified ones with oil consumption problems.

Cheers

Thanks Tim, when you say heavily modified....

What about on a 12.5 compression J's Racing stroked B16B, with stage 2 cams, high comp pistons, yada yada yada....

Although with the 10W50, I have noticed absolutely zero oil consumption.

It's down to the oil temps really, if it's getting over 130C, then a 10w-50 is a better idea than 5w-40. I would think that you'd probably need a turbo on there to get that sort of temp.

Cheers pal, very helpful! Got an oil temp guage going on next week so I will monitor it for a while, but likely swap out for 5W40

Has anyone from Greece used ENEOS oils? I say that because of our climate...

Just going to clear up the grades for some people here, the number followed by the w is the cold start viscosity of the oil not the "weight" as some think. Although generally the higher the w values the thicker "heavier" the oil. The second set of numbers is the viscosity of the oil at engine running temperature. Oils marked as SAE 20 etc are not multi weight oils like 10w-40, 5w-30 etc. The oil you use is completey dependant on your geological location and the modifications to your car. Honda's own oil in asia is 15w-30 iirc as they dont really need to worry about cold starting temps where as in parts of america and euro a 5w or even 0w would be reccomended.

Here in Greece in many Honda Clubs everyone has tried every oil brand (Here because of our climate the best is 10w-40) and the problems was in some times when the engine burns a little oil a smoke was coming from back of the exhaust the only brand that is not causing this is Motul 300v 10w-40 in my next change of oils in about a week from now i am going to use the ones from Honda OEM for VTEC engines to see any difference in that matter. :)

The 300V is one of the best oils available, I'm not surprised that it works out well for you.
