Which bits for best gains (K-swap!)

Right so im building an EG k20 (some of you may know) and im stuck about which parts to choose. The likes of Manifold and exhaust etc. Ive been looking at the skunk2 k swap manifold and the 3" skunk2 RR exhaust. Everyone knows they can be pricey enough. Is there much difference in gains from a 2.5 to a 3" exhaust? Is there any other manifolds/exhausts out there that are giving better gains than the ones ive mention? Maybe even cheaper ones that give the same gains? Also which fuel rail, cams etc etc. Im just trying to source out the best parts and best value for money. I know theres not going to be loads of k swaps on here but i know theres a fair few to maybe answer some of my questions. Ive posted this on k20A.org too, incase anyone just thinks im posting on an ek9 forum.

Thanks, Jack!

3" will provide more gains, so will a 2.5". If you have a more aggressive build, higher compression, cams, port polish, for example, you may get a tad more out by using a 3"...not a night and day difference tho. Louder too...

Im going .5 overbore with Wiseco pistons. Well thats tge plan anyway. Yea i wil look into a kpro towards the end bud!

Not sure on clearance in the EG, but there are very few manifolds that will clear the ABS pump on the EK if you plan to keep it, tube one protrudes too far out. My SSR was not a good fit, the DC made decent gains but the flexi on it is not ribbed and right up to the collector was only 2".
I was out at Silverstone with a guy running the 5.46fd, its too short for the road. The SK2 70mm system will more than likely fail noise levels if you plan to track it. Cams will add approx £1500 to your build, I would opt for something more aggressive than oem if your going all out.

The guy i was talkin to was running hasports mounts and said it was a perfect fit. The DC one seems the be the cheapest one of the lot like, the skunk2 ones are suppose to be great. I cant make my mind up!! Too many parts!! Lol!!

Bump this thread up again, has anyone any k series bits that would interest me?

Remember you will need to run an external FPR to get a return fuel line

Aeromotive make arguably the best FPR out there :nice:

A 3" system would be very beneficial. I had a custom 3" system made up for my b20....after a tweek on the dyno it gained a few peak hp but nearly 10ftls of torque.

Is this project still going ahead Jack?

You change your mind like the weather lol

I dont really know Potter. Id love an s13 but the only way id prob be able to insure it is trade, so might have to stick with this, plus some k20 stuff has came up so we will see what happens. Its either finish this or buy something rwd. Ive got 3 inch aluminium piping here for it.

Get it built then. No need to go all out with loads of expensive aftermarket parts. If you can get mike to build a reliable k20 and get it in and running it will be perfect!
Then you can gradually add bolt ons and any other mods over time

You wud loose ur liscence to easily in a rwd car and s13s do about 15mpg!

Lol, be a bit of craic tho. Yea need to see what I can get for it and try finish it

hey any news on what header u decided to go for?
im currently in the same situation here, im deciding on a manifold too...
i'm also thinking about the s2 mani but dont wanna get bent over by customs fines..
the other option is going custom from solid fabrications but getting kinda put off by haitch's experience...

Once my funds are available I will be buying a skunk2 megapower manifold.

Iv seen this car make more power than the rcrew header which is again a good header but out of production, plus it looks amazing.

You will pay roughly £60-80 import tax on a header from the US, depending on how many sections it is, size of the box, my recent three piece cost £56 + delivery.

The SK2 is a good choice, reputed to clear the ABS pump, should you want to retain it. As good as Alans work is, he doesn't have the facilities and resource for research and design on headers, as I have said he did offer to do mine again, excellent service. There are builders here who do, like Simpsons etc. A custom header from a US builder is not that much more than an SK2 if you wanted to chance it, Steven has had a good result.

also regarding exhaust sizes, i have a true 2.5" slip jointed system on my built B18, it is BIG. i really can't see how folk can justify 3" for a N/A car

The results say it all.

Alex's car made more peak power and more importantly IIRC upto 20bhp more midrange when he swapped to 3".

TDI North also use a 3" exhaust on their K20 EG that made 260bhp N/A.

And there is the countless threads from America land on 3" exhausts and Kseries.
