Which bits for best gains (K-swap!)

Right so im building an EG k20 (some of you may know) and im stuck about which parts to choose. The likes of Manifold and exhaust etc. Ive been looking at the skunk2 k swap manifold and the 3" skunk2 RR exhaust. Everyone knows they can be pricey enough. Is there much difference in gains from a 2.5 to a 3" exhaust? Is there any other manifolds/exhausts out there that are giving better gains than the ones ive mention? Maybe even cheaper ones that give the same gains? Also which fuel rail, cams etc etc. Im just trying to source out the best parts and best value for money. I know theres not going to be loads of k swaps on here but i know theres a fair few to maybe answer some of my questions. Ive posted this on k20A.org too, incase anyone just thinks im posting on an ek9 forum.

Thanks, Jack!

Americans swear by 3.0inch exhausts, but its something that hasnt been explored as much in this country. However, TDI North, arguably the countries biggest Kseries tuners, use a 3" exhaust on their k20 eg and it makes 260bhp.

If i was building a k20 with mainly OEM bits I would do

EP3 K20A2
RRC Inlet Manifold
70mm Throttle Body
3" intake piping
FD2 or DC5 Cams
Skunk2 Swap Manifold (mate has one of these and its amazing quality)
Custom 3" exhaust
Kpro/K100.

Id also definately get a shorter final drive, either the spoon 5.1 or for exteme meganess a 5.46.

Lol mate, everything youve listed is my plans. I read up about the RRC and it outclasses the RBC in every way. Im going to get a 5.1 FD from an FD2 (OEM part). I did look at Mfactort 5.4's tho. Ive got DC5 cams, Ill prob go for S2 or Hybrid Racing TB, Looking at the skunk2 3" RR exhausts atm and the manifolds. Ive got an ep3 engine with dc5 pistons etc. Hopefully i can get a Kpro along the way. Ive heard good reports about TDi North. Maybe worth a trip in the future.

Sounds like your good to go then sir aha.

Was mainly to tell people what ive picked out and see if anyone says for example. "a DC sports manifold will give the same gains for half the price" sorta thing. Its jsut to see if anyones had an experience with other bits thats maybe half the price and gives the same gains. I looked at another thread on the american forums where it showed the S2 inlet vs the RBC. They where both exactly the same yet the s2 one was double the price due to the name. If i hadnt have seen that thread id prob be paying double the price because of the name. Do you get me or am i waffling on?

R-Crew header all day long dude, have a look into them :)

Ive been told about them dude. Someone also said ktuned and hytech. I also heard SSR mentioned but when i checked up about SSR people where complain it didnt line up level to the bottom of the car. Do you know what sorta price they go for dude? Ill give it a google here.

EDIT: 625 Dollars. Then to get it shipped and customs etc. Might not work out too bad tbh. I want to try find a thread that someones tried and tested a few manifolds to see which give the best gains.

Start a chat with 'cesare' on civic life, he ran an R-crew header on his K swap EG and it was awesome, the fit, build quality, sound and it made some very impressive figures!

My friend had an Rcrew manifold and then swapped it to a Skunk2 megapower, He got the car tuned and dynoed with both, and the car made more power with the skunk2.

Cant get much more proof than that aha. However, He is selling that Rcrew mani, if you wanted a swap manifold for a good price without shipping/tax/import **** etc.

Yep cesare know's his stuff when it comes to K swaps he built an awesome machine, was lucky enough to see it a lot of times.

Personally when it comes to exhausts go custom mate. Cesare was running a Vibrant 3" backbox with a 3" custom mid pipe. He was also running a walbro uprated fuel pump, might be something to look into if your wanna squeeze every pony out of your mods :nice:

It was a machine wasn't it dude :))

Any idea how much he would have paid for a custom exhaust? I like the look and noise of the 3" skunk2. Ill look into the fuel pump. Anyone else tried any other exhaust/manifolds?

I'm yet to tune a K series with 3" exhaust but certainly a true 2.5" exhaust works well on these. Look into the Hybrid racing race header.

@vtec6000 it was like a difference of 10+ brake between to 2.5 and 3" exhaust.

Cheers Jason, ill get a look at it.

Right im stuck again. Ive ordered 3 inch aluminium pipe to try it, and i think im going to go for the Vibrant backbox. Ive been offered a second hand SSR Manifold for decent money but i think i could get a brand new skunk2 manifold for the same or a little more money. Does anyone know which is actually better? Ive heard the Skunk2 ones are good, but i know the SSR has a good name. Anyone know which gives the better gains or has anyone had any experience?

Jack.

...do you have a programmable ECU? If not get one, to get the most out of the parts you assemble together.
