Had an unsprung rpc unit in the 9 on the first engine and did less than 2k miles on it with limited revs and boost, issues with heat on the plate so avoiding RP stuff. Probably a one off thing so not slating them, their advice is to skim it and I've spoken to the two machine shops I use and they are saying It's not worth it as the amount they would likely need to remove to clear the burnt areas would cause issues with it's performance and with the power and torque figures I'm aiming for they wouldn't be wanting to skim it. Further to that the assembly would need to be stipped and re assembled and this isn't something they would be keen on doing. Like I say not slating RPC but it's enough to put me off. So...

Opinions on a decent clutch for circa 500hp?

I've found ACT stuff to be good

I have been using an exeedy stage 2 paddle clutch on the track car and it has been very reliable

A mate has been using the same exeedy paddle type clutch on his 400bhp drift car for the past 3 years with zero issues and as you can imagine he is hard on the clutch

There are counterfeit exeedy products out there so use a trusted dealer. I got mine from Tegiwa with free delivery

Thanks for the replies guys. I've been recommended Clutch Masters also? Anyone had any experience of them?

I've had a competition clutch before, that was pretty good, pedal was alittle light for my liking but that was a stage2 clutch.
That also came off the car with burn marks like you describe.
Action are fairly new on the scene are they not? Iirc Nicole's got action in hers

Not sure mate. It's annoying that you can only ever really find people with bad things to say about any manufacturer. Finding a success story is less common. A few people have said action now so that could be worth a shot. Exedy is probably King of the clutches tho. Decisions.

I'm on rpc ATM. Cheap enough but I'm only 2200miles into it.

It's just the cost of the clutch either, they likely to burn up the flywheel aswell...

I'm in two minds man but I just can't have any problems with this build.

Tbf my comp clutch was alittle aggy, Nicole had clutch issues aswell with hers.
Just go quality I guess?

I had a helix paddle clutch in mine for years.
Then went to Competition clutch stage 4. Was a grabby bugger but never slipped once. Obviously i wasnt running the same power/torque you are aiming for, but it never got an easy life. Pretty much zero road miles.

Orc twin plate clutch.
Just dump it and leave 11s everywhere.

Got a stage 4 sprung competition clutch on my EK9. Was running around 260bhp with no issues bar slight chatter until it bedded in. Getting mapped again soon with new turbo but I'm sure it will be fine at the new power level too.

Got the flywheel resurfaced as suggested by CC with all their clutch installs.

I have seen a few people reporting failures with Competition clutches so they could be hit or miss or they may have ironed out any problems by now being a relatively new clutch company

Exeedy make OEM clutches and their performance clutches are some of the best on the market... if you have ever seen a bad report about exeedy then I would assume that it was one of the counterfeit clutches so always buy from a registered dealer

I was up at the Crossle race car factory recently and they fit AP-Racing clutches to their 2.0 zetec race engines

Stage 5 sprung competition clutch here, dash wants to jump out during every set off but holds my power perfectly, can't fault it.

Running Action Clutch in my own car, much nicer clutch in terms of driveability compared to the ACT clutch I had fitted previously.

Flywheel is being re surfaced today so going to need to make a decision...

Went for the clutch masters fx400. I think the action 2ms would of been a better option but I'm really struggling for time now. @LORD WD40 has a similar build to myself and that's what he is using so I'm confident it will be up to the job.

I'm sure you'll be fine.
After all the aggro what's a clutch change if it does act up?
